The mom I am featuring this week is one of my absolute favorite people!  She lives her life like every day is an adventure and never takes things too seriously – yet has built a very successful company called blabla kids.  You have probably seen these dolls in top children’s boutiques and trendy children’s catalogues.  The designs are so simple yet so colorful.  You can’t help but smile when you see a bla bla doll!
I met Florence about 15 years ago as her sister and I are good friends and neighbors.  She is just one of those people who makes you feel heard and enjoyed. She looks at each day as an adventure (see above picture) and really embraces the moments and joys of motherhood and in her relationships with others.  Her sister told me that Flo has always painting, drawing, making things since she could remember.
Blabla kids was started in 2001 by Flo, her good friend Susan Pritchett and her partner, Joseph Strong.  Blabla kids offer handmade knitted dolls, blankets, finger puppets, baby mobiles, etc., that are handmade from women in Peru and are quite special and unique.  We are excited to be featuring this true dandelion mom!  Here is what Florence has to say about why she started blabla kids and she shares some news with us.

What was the inspiration to start bla bla kids?

A love for everything handmade, the discovery of a small village of Knitters in Peru, my children passion for animals.

I love the names you have for the dolls!  Where do you find the inspiration for the names and designs?

I think about the emotion I want to convey with each doll, it’s not just a name but a character description in a few letters…for example.

Prudence the owl…she is slow, she is patient, she observes, she is a little timid, she is wise….hopefully you get that impression when you hear her name.
What has been one of your more memorable moments in regards to a parent telling you how much their child loves the dolls.   There are a lot of those, and I cherish every one of them. There is the child who has been taking the same doll for 10 years everywhere in spite of his unrecognizable shape, the very sick boy from the hospital, the mom from a women’s shelter, the mom who makes everything blabla for her girls from the birthday cakes to the christmas cards or the halloween costumes, they are all very touching in their own ways…
Any news you want to share with dandelion moms?We just received an award for our new bedding collection called Petit Home…it’s exciting, I always get nervous when i first introduce a design…Thank you Flo for taking the time to speak to us over at dandelion moms!To read more about bla bla kids go to www.blablakids.comAnd you can follow them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/blablakids?v=wallblabla.knit-dolls-01
