Instagram of the Week: A Car Built for Dreamers

Just to set the record straight – I am not much of a car person.  If the car can get me from point A to point B safely and without any problems – I am good.  That being said, I can still appreciate beautiful cars such as this one we saw in the parking lot at a golf course near our house.  My husband was working on a Saturday and my daughter and I decided to go have breakfast at the golf course restaurant to kill some time.  Plus, we didn’t have much to eat at the house!  We were walking up to the restaurant and came across this gorgeous car in the parking lot.  I took a couple pictures and showed them to my husband last night.  His response – “Oh, that’s a Shelby Cobra”.

I did a little research because I figured the person who built this car must be a dreamer.  I mean, look at the style of it – it reminds me of the Hot Wheels you played with as a kid.  Turns out I was right.  Carroll Shelby was born January 11, 1923 and his career started out as an flight instructor, a brief stint in a chicken-raising business to driving his first race car in January 1952.  That following May, he raced hot rod race behind the wheel of a MG-TC and placed first among the other MG’s.  Suffice to say he went on to design and produce some of the most popular race and road cars in American history.  Caroll Shelby just passed away this past May but leaves behind a legacy of dream cars and the Caroll Shelby Foundation that helps financial assistance to sick children.

To me, this car is the ultimate dream car.  I had visions of driving up the coast, pretending I was in a James Bond movie (yes, I can have an active imagination and no matter they only used British cars in their movies…). Just looking at the cars Shelby designed comes with the understanding he must have been of a dandelion mindset!
