Walt Disney’s Peter Pan Review & Giveaway
Can you believe that Walt Disney’s classic Peter Pan is celebrating it’s 60th Anniversary this year! This was my mothers favorite Disney tale and I also love Peter Pan with all the lost treasure, pirates and Tinker Bell. To celebrate the 60th Anniversary, Disney released an all-new “Diamond Edition” DVD/Blu-ray this month; however, fans can also experience the classic tale on mobile devices with the Peter Pan: Disney Classics book app. The iOS story takes readers to Neverland like never before. With read along activities, games and more, readers will join Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the whole gang on a magical adventure whenever, wherever, and however they choose.
I had a chance to check out the Peter Pan: Disney Classics app and really enjoyed reviewing it with my daughter. When you open the first page – the music immediately starts up and you are transformed into your younger self. I seriously felt that I was about to walk through the gates at Disneyland – that’s how excited I was reading about Peter Pan and his adventures. It’s not like I haven’t read the story before – but you know how you feel watching Disney movies with the kids – a younger self comes through! I think your kids just might love all the treasure, pirates and and adventures as much as you do!
One of the features allows your child to take a picture of themselves and type in their name. This photo can come from your photo album or you can take a picture with your iPad. My six year old enjoyed taking a silly picture that shows up throughout the story. The animations are simple such as smoke coming out the chimney’s in old London. When you touch the screen you can hear the horses and carriage going by – very quaint! The sound effects are great and very accurate. You can hear the sound of wooden swords when John and Michael are playing pirates on the bed. I like that when you touch the characters, their names come up across the screen as this is a useful early reader feature. This can be seen throughout the story when you touch the characters.
On the first page you have the option to do some coloring with either a paint brush or colored pencil. The picture is really fun and shows Peter Pan in a pirate outfit at the helm of a ship. Oh what fun! You can save the picture and email it to friends and family as well. We really enjoyed the page that allowed us to play flutes. You have the option to listen, learn or play the six-stringed flute. Most kids love to create their own music so this was a really nice feature. Other features include:
- Reading modes for all ages
- Coloring pages, interactive puzzles and memory matching games
- Activities including a musical instrument activity similar to Peter’s
All in all – what’s not to love about Peter Pan and his mates! We really love this classic tale that has a timeless quality to it. Enjoy! Good news! Disney has provided some codes for our lovely dandelion moms! Good luck!
The Peter Pan: Disney Classics book app is available now for the iPhone and iPad on the App Store for $3.99: https://bit.ly/USOCEm
Note: We were provided with a code to review the app but it did not affect our opinion of Peter Pan and his mates. All our thoughts are our own!
