Instagram of the Week: The Beauty of the Dandelion
Spring is here!
This past week it I saw white dandelions sprouting up everywhere and while walking my dog, saw no less than 50 in the grass along the sidewalk. Intentionally transplanted from Europe over to the New World in the early days of the American Colonies, the humble dandelion has long been at the side of man, providing nutrition, herbal medicine and the little burst of cheer that comes with the bright little flowers. Throughout the ages, dandelions have been woven into cultural folklore and have become a positive symbols with a variety of meanings. Some of the folklore associated with dandelions include blowing on the white part of the dandelion after making a wish will make your wish come true!
Dandelions have long been symbols of good things.
Woven into a wedding bouquet, they are meant to be good luck for a newly married couple. When dandelions appear in dreams, they are thought to represent happy unions. They are also considered to be symbols of hope, summer and childhood. The name dandelion itself is an alteration of a French term for the plant that means lion’s teeth, a reference to the petals of the plant.
One of the reasons I chose the name dandelion moms and the dandelion as our symbol is because it is hard not to be immediately be drawn back to your childhood when looking at a dandelion! And to go through life with a childlike view of the world would be a gift – in that you are constantly awed by the wonder of it all! They represent strength and resilience – much like a woman. One of our lovely dandelion moms, Holly C., came up with this gorgeous description of a dandelion mom:
“A dandelion mom is strong, resilient, flexible. She blossoms and blooms where ever she finds herself, no matter the conditions. She is also gentle and thoughtful, a dream maker and a wish granter.”
Her description sums it up and my wish is to create a community of women who support one another in their journey and provide helpful posts that help in day-to-day living! And to inspire women to go after their dreams – whatever they may be!
Thank you for joining us at dandelion moms.

I just discovered your blog via Julie Hedlund. I LOVE dandelions, too! In fact, I wrote a book about them. Hope to see you around!
