Ranger Rick’s Tree House and Appventures Review and Giveaway

Come Celebrate National Wildlife Week!

Did you know this week is National Wildlife Week?  Perfect timing for a review of their great app and digital magazine that The National Wildlife Federation created where kids can explore an animated African savannah in search for lions.  The National Wildlife Federation is America’s largest conservation organization.  They work with more than 4 million members, partners and supporters in communities across the country to protect and restore wildlife habitat, confront global warming and connect with nature.  I love how the National Wildlife Federation’s mission is to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children’s future.  Last summer we took a trip to Mammoth and really enjoyed all the nature hikes we took with our daughter – though my husband ended up holding her on his shoulders half of the time…  she had a great time and so I am not surprised she really enjoys both the digital magazine and Ranger Rick’s Appventures app!

You can learn fun facts by tilting the iPad towards the sky and ground.  My daughter had a blast tilting the iPad in a full circle to take pictures of the lions on the savannah!  The National Wildlife Federation has pulled out all the bells and whistles for its latest apps, which have been written up by USAToday.com, Parents.com and the New York Times, and named one of the Top 10 Kids’ Apps by Entertainment Weekly.

Kids can even make wildly unique (and often strange!) music with an “Animal Piano” that uses real-life animal sounds!

· Ranger Rick’s Tree House (ages 7-12)

Forget turning pages, this iPad magazine (available on Newsstand) has content organized by rooms in a tree house! Each room is packed with real-life animal videos, comic adventures, multi-level games, goofy jokes, nature crafts, wildlife mysteries, and opportunities for kids to earn badges. No other digital children’s magazine is more innovative, interactive, or just plain fun!

· Ranger Rick Jr. Appventures (ages 4-7)

This new iPad story app lets young kids use cutting-edge technology to Explore, Create, and Play their way through incredible animal adventures. Every Appventure includes an interactive photo story, engaging games, and creative play activities—all centered around a specific animal. The first one in the series opens with a ROAR as mascot Ricky Raccoon and his friend Lars the Lion take children on a trip to the African grasslands. There they discover how lions spend their days, raise their young, and much more!

My daughter and I really enjoyed learning about the lions and their cubs.  There is footage of actual lions and their prides as they play and take care of each other.  There are loads of fun activities and we even get to create our own silly story and play the piano which doesn’t sound like your normal piano keys… they lion roars each time the keys are touched.  We really enjoyed both the magazine and the Appventures App.  And good news!  The National Wildlife Federation has provided us with 5 codes for a giveaway for our dandelion moms for the Appventures – good luck!
