Crafts :: Fun and Easy Earth Day Craft for Kids!

Celebrate Earth Day With An Easy Craft:

With Earth Day approaching, many are wondering how to show kids how important our earth really is to us. My kids are too young to really understand what Earth Day is all about but that did not stop me from looking for a fun (and easy) craft idea to do with them. I found this craft while doing a bit of research and was immediately drawn to the simplicity of it. I have two girls who are ages 3 and 2 so easy is important. I look for ideas that will keep them engaged while being fun to do. And what toddler doesn’t like to play with paint? Please excuse the lighting on some of the pictures while I share this earth craft with you all!

First things first…Supplies

You will need: Blue paper (I used construction paper), Elmer’s Glue, Shaving Cream, Green paint, a Blue Marker of Crayon, Scissors, and A Mixing Bowl with a Spoon. I also used black construction paper and a white crayon ( I will show later but it is not required in the original idea).

Next you will need to create the paint mixture.

Do to this, you will need to use 3 parts shaving cream with 1 part Elmers glue. We did 3 cups shaving cream with 1 cup Elmers glue. From there you add in the green paint. How much green paint is up to you. It all depends on what color green you want to get. My girls loved the mixing part!

After mixing the paint, take the blue marker (or crayon in my instance) and draw a circle on the construction paper. This will give you the circle for the earth.

After you have your circle, paint away! As I have mentioned, my girls are young and do not know what the earth looks like as far as land goes. I helped out a little with directing their hands but then gave up. Hey, its supposed to be fun right? It gets messy but I used washable paint so it came right off. I also put down an old sheet to try and maintain a “controlled” mess.

Afterwards, let the paint dry. The mixture will create a puffy look which adds texture to the paint. Then cut out the circles and you have your Earth painting!

I went a step farther. I also had black construction paper so we decided to glue to Earth onto it and color stars around it.

There you have it! A fun and easy craft idea that will entertain the kids and create cute art pieces to hang around the house!
