Crafts :: Create Memorable Mother’s Day Crafts

Celebrate Mother’s Day with some home-made gifts:

According to the National Retail Federation’s consumer spending survey conducted in April 2012, Americans spent about $18.6 billion nationally for Mother’s Day.  And the trend to spend more continues in spite of high gas prices and uncertainty around our economy.  Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I think most moms can attest that the best presents are those made by our kids.  For our kids, the process of creating something  and then seeing how excited we get over their arts and crafts is pretty special!  But don’t get me wrong – I am always a sucker for pretty flowers and yummy chocolate. (Hint to husband if you are reading this).

Here are some ideas you can do with the kids to help them create something special that will be treasured.

Blossoms to Life Craft:

This gorgeous craft is courtesy of: https://www.papercraftsforchildren.com/2010/03/28/spring-blossom-tissue-tree/

I love how this gorgeous this looks! Blow ink, or runny paint, or dye, or food coloring around on some paper with a straw – make sure that if the children are doing this that they practice BLOWING first. Try to blow in one general direction to get some branch shapes. Then glue on little scrunched up bits of pink or white tissue paper on or near the branches. A super duper paper crafts for children activity with a WOW impact!

Mosaic Flower Pot:

Total Time 1 hour Ages all-ages

Preserve old treasures and create a useful gift in the process.  This craft was also on the Spoonful website.  I like the idea of taking odds and ends that are laying around or treasures you have picked up on nature walks.

What you’ll need

  • Newspaper
  • Pieces of broken pottery, tiles, beads, marbles, beach glass, shells or charms
  • Ceramic tile grout (available at hardware stores)
  • Plastic knife
  • Terra-cotta flowerpot
  • Sponge
Helpful Tip:If you don’t have broken pottery, place chipped, leftover tiles in a clear plastic bag (this way you can see what you’re smashing) and break them with a hammer. Another good source for broken tiles is your local tile or hardware store; many will give you broken display tiles for free.To read more about how to make this great Mother’s Day pot go here: https://spoonful.com/crafts/mosaic-flowerpot
Enjoy your special day moms!
