Do You Give Grandkid Presents for Mother’s Day?

 

Most of us appreciate Mother’s Day more once we become a mom. It was fun to make homemade cards for our moms, but now that we are moms too, we understand how lovely it is to have a holiday that recognizes and honors motherhood.

Show your mom how much you and your kids love her by making her adorable and useful gifts. Mothers Day Central suggests easy, attractive and functional gift ideas that grandmas are sure to love.

Picture Frames

If the outing went well, or if gram is far away, send her a picture for her fridge, desk or brag book.

1. Pick up photo frames from a dollar store.
2. Have your kids color or write messages on the matting, or cover the matting with scrapbook  paper and stickers.
3. Embellish the frame with accessories.
4. Add recent photos of the kids

Voilà—you have a meaningful, handmade photo frame for grandma that she is sure to love and appreciate for years to come. Or make the gift more modern by getting a big frame, paint, chicken wire and clothes pins.

1. Paint the frame and chicken wire.
2. Staple the chicken wire onto the frame.
3. Clothes pin pictures of your children onto the chicken wire.

Potted Plant

Get a ceramic pot, Mother’s Day flowers and your favorite pictures of your kids ready.

1. Print the chosen pictures in black and white on regular printer paper.
2. Paint the entire pot white, so spaces aren’t obvious.
3. Mod Podge the pictures onto the pot.
4. Spray the pot with clear acrylic to remove stickiness.
5. Place your flowers, like the FTD Mother’s Day  flowers fuchsia bougainvillea, and soil in the pot.

Re-Usable Grocery Bag

Take a plain-cloth grocery bag from most dollar stores and pull out the fabric paint.

1. Have your kids wash their hands.
2. Have them lightly dip their hands in paint.
3. Have them delicately add their handprints to the side with fabric paint.

The bag is usable, washable and super adorable. You can also make it work with T-shirts or sweaters.

Pot Full of Flower Pens

Grab a small flower pot, some ballpoint-style pens without caps, some artificial flowers, jewels, sticker, paint or other inexpensive accessories from a local craft shop.

1. Line the pot with floral foam.
2. Cover that unsightly, but useful, foam with some artificial grass—if you have some  leftover Easter grass handy, that would work perfectly.
3. Remove the plastic buttons at the top of the pens and then wrap green floral tape from the  top of the pen (where the button was), stopping at the pointed end. Add a dab of glue to the stem  of an artificial flower, and top the pen with it.
4. Repeat the process for the remaining pens and arrange them in your pre-made pot. You can make  as many pens as you wish—just be sure they will fit into the foam.

An Outing

Sometimes the best gifts are just time spent bonding. Have you and your kids spend the afternoon with your mom. This is a gift to your mom, not a gift FROM your mom. Memories of picnics, trips to mini-golf, museums or whatever your family enjoys are the kinds of gifts that never stop giving.
