Disney’s Monsters University Storybook Review & Giveaway

We have watched the movie Monster’s Inc. no less than 20 times together as a family. I just love Sulley and Mike and especially Boo!  This is such great movie that we are really looking forward to the sequel, Monster’s University, that showcases Sulley and Mike in college.  What a funny premise! Well, in anticipation of this summer’s release of the Monsters, Inc. movie prequel, Monster’s University, Disney Publishing has a released a brand new app – Monsters University Storybook Deluxe! The fully animated interactive storybook is now available for $6.99 in the iTunes App Store for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad Mini and sheds new light on the story of the friendship of beloved monster pals Mike and Sulley.

I had a chance to review this new app and my daughter and I had a great time playing it together.  It opens up to Sulley and Mike in front of the Monsters University main building which is called School of Scaring.  You have the option to have it read to you or to play some games.  We started out with the games and it opens up to a page filled with several “players” to choose from.  We chose to go with Carrie Williams as we like that she has three eyes!  When you touch her banner – it opens up to her school card and asks if you would like to play as Carrie.  We clicked the check mark and were brought to the next page that shows the different games that included: Toxicity Challenge, Avoid the Parent, Don’t Scare the Teen, Hide and Sneak, and Simulated Scare.

Once you decide on the game (we chose Simulated Scare) it then asks you how difficult we want the game to be.  Being as competitive as she is (she gets this from her dad) she chose to go with the hardest level.  For the Simulated Scare game we are given instructions to tilt our device to navigate around toxic human objects and our score is dependent on how well we avoid these objects.  Once you reach the simulator kid’s bed we are to give a loud roar to get even more points!  We really enjoyed comparing how loud our roars could get!

You are also able to get rewards after you play the games which include Monster baseball-style cards that list the Monsters specs.  My daughter has won Scarer Tommy Gill whose Height: 6′, Weight: 203, Born: December 8 and his Home: Monstropolis.  And then lists his Professional Scaring Record.  I love how Disney has thought of everything with this app!  At any time you are able to go back to the home page to read the story.  We also liked the feature where you can create your own Monster Badge with your picture!  You can just image your kids going crazy creating the perfect badge.
