PBS Kids WordGirl vs. The Energy Monster Review and Giveaway

We are big fans of the PBS Kids Emmy Award-Winning WordGirl and just love her side kick, Huggy Face.  My daughter and I will watch it together and I like that she will learn new words and is taught how to use them in sentences.  She is always asking me the meaning of words and I think part of this curiosity can be traced back to this program.  PBS Kids is releasing “WORDGIRL VS. THE ENERGY MONSTER” on DVD May 14th.  “WordGirl®”  follows the life and super hero adventures of WordGirl as she fights crime and enriches vocabulary usage. In this new DVD, which includes three fun-filled learning adventures, WordGirl and her sidekick Captain Huggy Face fight the good fight against dastardly villains and bad vocabulary!

These three episodes of “WordGirl” introduce new vocabulary words and reinforce their meanings in a variety of fun and interesting contexts. “WordGirl” enriches vocabulary skills, fosters better reading comprehension and instills a love of language in all children. “WORDGIRL VS. THE ENERGY MONSTER” will be available on DVD May 14, 2013. The run time of the program is 50 minutes and the DVD SRP is $9.99. DVD special features include interactive games, video shorts and coloring pages. Details about the episodes features on this DVD are below.

Dinner or Consequences, Part 1

Dr. Two Brains is stealing all of the city’s milk and using it – with help from the unusually talkative Energy Monster – to superpower his new ray and turn the whole city into cheese! It’s up to WordGirl to find the disappearing dairy and stop Dr. Two Brains even if it means missing her family feast and having to face the consequences.

Dinner or Consequences, Part 2

Becky has to rely on an old Botsford tradition – the family trial – to convince her family that she vanished from the feast for a good reason. But when the Energy Monster breaks Dr. Two Brains out of jail and the two head over to the Botsfords to take back a powerful invention, will Becky be able to prove her innocence and transform into WordGirl in time to stop the two super villains?

Best Fan Club Meeting Ever

TJ plans a meeting to divulge a secret about WordGirl to International WordGirl Fan Club members. However, when Tobey finds out that a secret about his love/nemesis will be revealed, he crashes the meeting with an eavesdropping robot and threatens to destroy the clubhouse. WordGirl has to spring into action to save the clubhouse and her fans!

Day at the Museum

Scoops takes Becky, Bob, and Violet to the museum to find inspiration for his news story for The Big City Times. When they hear a rumor about a haunted treasure, the team goes on a search – with The Butcher right behind! Can Scoops, Becky, Bob, and Violet find the treasure, evade The Butcher, and do it all in time for Scoops to keep his deadline?

I had a chance to preview the new show with my six year old and we just loved the episodes.  The writing is clever and adults are entertained as well!  PBS Kids has provided us with a DVD of the new show WordGirl vs. The Energy Monster to hand out.  Also, our friends at Ink Robin have provided a $25 gift card to go along with the DVD.  Good luck friends!
