Emergency Fashion Fixes at the Office

Emergency Fashion Fixes at the Office

Fashion emergencies happen all the time. Avoiding them entirely isn’t possible, but dealing with them is. It just requires a little know-how and some basic office supplies. Obviously, using actual fashion tools would be better, but these can help you out in a pinch so you look your best for that presentation.

Tears and Rips

Once your clothing starts tearing, you need to stop that tear before it gets any worse. Otherwise, that little hole could quickly turn into a long run. Whether that tear is in your favorite business suit or a dress from a designer dress rental, you need to mend it on the fly. For most tears, a simple piece of tape on the back of the fabric will keep it from going any further. Do not use glue or white-out. These will cause permanent stains.  When applying the tape, always apply an extra half inch more than you will need. The tape should cover the full tear. If you need to fix a torn hem, opt for double sided tape. It will hold the material together better than ordinary office tape. It is also better than clear nail polish as it can be removed.

Oily Face

Nerves can stimulate the production of oil from your sebaceous glands, giving your face that oily shine that is perfect for acne. You might be tempted to use your hands or even your sleeve. Don’t use either. The bacteria and germs on your hands will cause your face to be more likely to break out than before. Using your sleeve could result in a stain, particularly if you are wearing makeup. Instead, you can tear off a portion of a clean toilet seat cover. Yes, it might seem hard to believe, but the the paper is made of a similar material to blotting paper and useful if you are in a bind!  It won’t strip your makeup off. Just make sure that you do not scrub or rub your face.

Missing Button

One of the more embarrassing fashion problems comes when a button pops off. Unless you’re incredibly prepared, you probably don’t have extra buttons on hand. Paperclips can save the day. To make it work, you’ll need to hook the paperclip through the button hole and then fasten it securely to the other side. You can also use it to help clip up your hem.

Hair Gone Astray

Sometimes a day at the office makes staying presentable almost impossible. If your hair comes undone, you can turn to paperclips again. Just make sure that they aren’t visible. They are quite strong and function very much like bobby pins. They work particularly well if you are clipping the hair up on the back of your head rather than against your natural part.
