Latest & Greatest :: Disney PLANES: Storybook Deluxe
Our family has watched both the Cars movies no less than twenty times each! I just love the characters and storyline in both films. The Cars movies are Disney and Pixar at their best! So it is with great excitement we had an opportunity to preview the new Disney Digital Books PLANES app. First flying onto the scene in Disney’s Cars, Dusty Crophopper is back in an all-new storybook deluxe app from Disney Publishing! The Disney “Planes: Storybook Deluxe” app takes readers to new heights as they relive the film through 41 story screens, read-along text and full narration that re-retells the story of the feature film.
The first page opens up and we have a choice between Read and Fly, Race and Fly or Scan and Fly. The whole time the main characters in the new movie fly by, smiling at us! We started with the Read and Fly section and we are told that Not long ago there was an ordinary plane who had an extraordinary dream. Dusty Crophopper wanted to fly in the Wings Around the Globe Rally. For a crop-dusting plane from a small town, Dusty had set his sights very high. Immediately we are drawn into the storyline and see Dusty flying back and forth over some fields of corn. With a swipe across the screen, we move on to the next page. The narrator is probably the same voice we will hear in the movie and is calming and energetic. We are able to meet Dusty’s friend, Chug, who helps him with his flying workouts – as much as he can since he is a big truck driving below Dusty while he flies.
The narration is straight from the movie and really draws you into the story. The next page consisted of a game where we tilt the device to control your plane. And told to pass through as many circles as you can! This was actually harder than you would think as you had to estimate the how much room you needed to get through the large orange circle. Let’s just say that I didn’t make it through a couple! I like that this is a challenging game that works on eye-hand coordination. At anytime you can go back to the beginning to start over.
Created to immerse readers in the world of Planes wherever and whenever, the app features “tilt-and-play” technology that gives little pilots a chance to fly as Dusty through the story, a “Race & Fly” game that allows readers to race as their favorite Planes characters, tappable interactive animation, and original music and video clips from the film.
Disney “Planes: Storybook Deluxe” is available now in the Entertainment category of the Apple App Store.
Also, those who purchase the Planes Read-Along Storybook and CD Bundle – available exclusively at The Disney Store and Disney Parks – will receive the “Planes: Storybook Deluxe” app for free, including four exclusive Planes to fly as in the app’s “Race & Fly” game; a download code can be found inside the book cover and is redeemable on the iTunes App Store.
