Throwing Your Child’s Birthday Party in 6 Easy Steps
Tips to Throw Your Child’s Next Birthday Party:
Birthday parties for our children can be an exhausting experience, especially if it’s your first time dealing with it. Following these steps will turn an overwhelming feat into a manageable party that your child will love.
Pick a fun theme based on your child’s interests.
Is your child a little princess or more of a pirate? Or a Harry Potter party might be the way to go, but you have to ask your child. It is their birthday after all, and they should be involved in the planning. Letting the little birthday boy or girl in on the decision will increase the fun and anticipation for the party.
Make the invitations yourself.
Letting your child help with the invitations can be a lot of fun. They can draw or color on them even if they are too young to write. After the theme is planned out and your creative invitations are in hand, go with your child to deliver them. This takes extra time but will ensure the invites get to the right kids and will let the parents know you want their child to attend the big event.
Decorate minimally.
Instead of going overboard with elaborate decorations, go with simple but fun decorations that will tell the story of the theme easily. My daughter and I cut out large butterflies from colored paper, added some glitter, and then hung them up around the house. We got some pink, plastic table cloths and butterfly paper plates to complete the look. Simple, but stylistic.
Keep the guest list small.
Can you handle ten to fifteen 4 year olds running around your house? Me neither. The smaller the number of children, the better time you’ll have. A four year old might have 5 kids who they really want to come celebrate, and that is a perfect number. Being invited to a party is not necessarily a give-and-take courtesy, so don’t get bogged down with who deserves to be invited based on the fact that they had your kid over once.
Have yummy treats available.
My little girl loves cookies so I went that route instead of buying a cake. I wanted something cute and special, but considering my sub-par baking skills I ordered a cookie delivery to match our butterfly theme. If you’re looking for something special that you can’t find at the store, you can check out ProFlowers under the “edible creations” section. I always try to limit the amount of sugar that my children eat, but on birthdays I allow for a little extra indulgence.
Do crafts together.
Doing crafts is a great way to avoid the chaos of a bunch of little children running in every direction. Prior to craft time you could let them burn off some energy outside with a fun game, but make sure it doesn’t get out of control by supervising and giving the children an objective. You’ll want to start a age appropriate craft activity, after enough bouncing around has ensued. Just make sure your child is as into it as you are.
The memories that you help create on your child’s birthday will be remembered forever. Have fun while planning and involve the guest of honor as much as possible. Following these steps will make your child’s special day exceptional.
