Dandelion Moms Celebrates It’s One Year Birthday August 27th!

It was a year ago this month that Allison, my amazing web designer and I were working hard to make my dream of creating an online community for women to share their dreams and aspirations and inspire women to go after their dreams.  Dandelion moms was created in order to provide a platform for women and to provide helpful parenting, beauty, home décor and fashion tips as well as feature interesting companies, individuals and organizations who are helping to make the world a better place.  We are celebrating our one year birthday with a Facebook Party where goodies will be handed out to our participants!  So make sure to join us on Tuesday the 27th from 5:30-6:30 pm PST at this event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/162395783953414/?context=create  You just show up on Facebook for some fun, trivia and goodies!

A Year in Review:

Some of my favorite stories and interviews this year include the one with Chuck Jones grandson, Craig Krausen, President of the Chuck Jones company who shared with me details of his grandfather as only a family member would know.  Like the time his grandfather was so excited to see a young Craig swim across the pool after trying to do so all summer long, that he jumped in the deep end with him, fully dressed and all.  Craig said that the joy that Chuck Jones embodied and shared with others was contagious.  He treated people around him with respect and really listened to them and he made them feel like they were the only person in the room.  Though he was an Academy Award winner, Craig said he was just a down-to-earth individual who really enjoyed his life. You can read more about The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity here:

Another story I enjoyed this year was the one with The Kratt Brothers who many of you might know from the television programs Kratts’ Creatures, Zoboomafoo, and Be the Creature and Wild Kratts. I loved to hear how their love of nature and wildlife extended into their adult life and they created a life that many could only dream of.  Their cartoon The Wild Kratts has done really well and teaches children about the world around them.

Plus all the inspiring women we featured in our Inspirational Moms section have been no less than amazing.  Dorothea Gillim who created WordGirl talks about her love of language and words stems from childhood to Angela Santomero who created Super Why!, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and Blues Clues, shares with us where she finds the inspiration to create these fun characters and how she balances home and work life, to many of the Huggies Mom Inspired Grant recipients who saw a need for a product and went out and created it such as Jonelle Krier of Assessables.  I adore inspiring mom Jodi Murphy of Geek Club Books whose Asperger’s son was the inspiration to create a character and storybook app that shows we have all superpowers and gifts. Plus all the amazing artists, ceramics, jewelry designers and so many more amazing women living their dreams!

Some new features we added over the year include the dandelion moms project kindness where each month we select an organization or group who are helping to make a difference in people’s lives.  Some of these have included Project Night Night where they donate tote bags filled with stuffed animals, a blanket, and a children’s book to children in shelters to a family who moved to the Dominican Republic and found that there was no public library so they raised money and books for the library.  Our lovely dandelion moms raised money and donated over 125 books which helped stock the library for the community.  So many wonderful groups to support – it has been a real pleasure to see people spreading seeds of kindness into the world.

And a BIG THANK YOU to all of our regular contributors!  Nina Lim, Charly James, Lynne Snowden, Michelle Norris, Wendy Conte, Justine Generst, Nicole Madison, Dr. Heather Manley, Kelly McMullen, Jodi Murphy, Beth Panageotou, Jodi Hobbs, Anita Reynolds McArthur and many more who have shared their stories with us!
