Play :: Celebrate National Friendship Day
“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival. “
– C. S. Lewis
Friendships are so important to help you get through the rough times in life and enjoy the happy times. I think back to the women I’ve met along the way and who have had an impact in my life and I am so thankful we crossed paths. Some of these friends I am no longer in touch with but I still look back fondly on these friendships. I was so happy to hear that there is a national Friendship Day to honor these people in your life you call friends. Take a moment to send a note, make a phone call and let them know how much they mean to you! Check out the Holiday Spot website: https://www.theholidayspot.com/friendship/friendship_day_dates.htm that describes what the day is all about and why it was created years ago. You can even check out on their site the Astrological aspects of your friends and see why you two are compatible!
History of National Friendship Day:
Considering the valuable role friends play in our life it was deemed to fit to have a day dedicated to friends and friendship. The United States Congress, in 1935, proclaimed first Sunday of August as the National Friendship Day. Since then, celebration of National Friendship Day became an annual event. The noble idea of honoring the beautiful relationship of friendship caught on with the people and soon Friendship Day became a hugely popular festival.
Following the popularity and success of Friendship Day in US, several other countries adopted the tradition of dedicating a day to friends. Today, Friendship Day is enthusiastically celebrated by several countries across the world including India. (source: https://www.friendshipday.org/).
In 1997, the United Nations named Winnie – the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of Friendship. But of course he is! Pooh Bear embodies what it means to be a friend!
The Meaning of National Friendship Day:
Friendship Day is dedicated to the bond of friendship and companionship and is celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year. This year 2013, it will be celebrated on 4th August. The occasion began as a small event, to commemorate the relation shared by friends. Today, it has taken the shape of a grand festival. Over the passing years, the festivities related to Friendship Day have become even more colorful. The exchange of gifts, flowers, friendship bands and greeting cards has become an important part, rather, a tradition of Friendship Day.
