DIY :: Unique Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Have I told you all how much I love this time of year? Yes, probably in every post this past week or two!  We even started decorating for Halloween about two weeks ago. Much to the annoyance of my husband, but we (mainly me, but my daughter gets into it as well) couldn’t reframe from pulling out the decorations from the garage and started decorating early!  This week I wanted to start working on our pumpkins, but wanted to try out some unique DIY ideas and boy did we find some great non-carving pumpkin ideas.  I absolutely love the colorful pumpkins from the blog Whatever and we are heading off to the craft store to get paint this morning!  Make sure to post and share your decorated pumpkins with us on our Facebook Page!  Have fun!

The Colorful Pumpkin Patch:

This is the idea we are going to try out this year!  I absolutely adore the bright colors Whatever.com blogger used and I can just imagine how much fun my daughter and I will have making these!  To see a tutorial about how to make these just go to:

Hand Sketched Pumpkins:

Artist Lisa Burke provides this great idea of sketching the leaves onto the pumpkin with a black permanent marker.  If you are like me, you might want to try out a pencil or pen to get the outline and then fill it in.  To read more go to:

Spooky Spiders:

This is another really fun idea and seems pretty easy to do.  And I love the contrast of the black and white ribbon, pumpkin and spiders.  Very cute!  Go to A Pumpkin and a Princess to read how to make this fun pumpkin display.

Bat-o-Lanterns:

My daughter and I made these two years ago for Halloween and had a great time painting them black and cutting out the wings and eyes from thick black foam board.  These are pretty easy to make and are great for the front porch to show off!  Go here to read how to make these Bat-o-Lanterns:

Scaredy Cats

This fun idea comes from Decoholic.com who found how to make them from Good HouseKeeping.com.  Here is her explanation on how to create these Scaredy Cats:

Creating a trio of crystal-accented cats is so simple, it’s frightening. Pick large pumpkins for the bodies, smaller ones for the heads (snap off stems; turn upside down), and squash for the tails. Spray on a couple of coats of glossy black paint, and carve almond-shaped eyes. Cut triangle ears and collars from felt; affix with straight pins. With a hot-glue gun, attach plastic gems and rhinestone strips for purrfectly gloomy glamour. Via GoodHouseKeeping.com

Spooky Pumpkins:

These spray painted pumpkins look great!  Just pick out your favorite decals (you could make them yourself out of craft paper and tape them onto the pumpkin) and spray paint the pumpkins black.  To read more go to:

A Welcoming Committee:

I love the different characters in this fun welcoming committee!  You have your skeleton, witch, pirate (fun!), a mummy and some bats.  A couple of these you would have to carve, but it would be worth it.  To read more go to:

Have fun!

How are you planning on decorating your pumpkins this year?
