Latest & Greatest :: Disney’s La Luna App Review & Giveaway

“La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Featuring original artwork created by the film’s director, Enrico Casarosa, this interactive story experience will delight animation fans of all ages.” ~ iTunes

Many of you might remember watching the short film La Luna before most of the children’s movies out this year.  I loved the simple illustrations and thought the story was so sweet.  They recently released La Luna The Story Project App that features a short film, interactive video and the storybook.  You can even click on the Behind the Scenes icon at the bottom of the first page and are taken to see what it took to create the short film.  We are able to see inside the world of Storyboards, Turntables (where it is explained that in order for the three dimensional environment inside the computer, it is important that the characters look the same from every angle.  The Turntables allowed the filmmakers to view characters and objects from all different directions). Also included is a behind- the scenes tour of the  Sound Design (where we are told how they created the star sounds in the film.  They listened to many different types of possibilities and gravitated toward a pure, crystalline glass sound which they achieved using ceramic and glass.  It is so great as they also show a clip of the short film to see where the sounds were used.  I remember watching the film and loved the way the stars sounded so it was pretty cool to hear how they achieved these sounds.   LaLuna.Screenshot1   The interactive video  starts off with a little boy set out to sea in a little boat called La Luna.  His papa and grandpa were taking him out to their work for the very first time.  Grandpa handed the boy a gift which we help the boy open.  The gift was a hat, but the papa and grandpa couldn’t agree on how the boy should wear it.  We are able to swipe the page and have either grandpapa or papa help him fix the hat to their liking.  I don’t want to spoil what the rest of the story is about but I can promise you this is a very sweet tale!  La Luna reminds one that good stories don’t need to be fast paced or have too much going on in the illustrations.  This story is beautifully made and the storybook illustrations are a real treat.   LaLuna.Screenshot5   The narrator is just wonderful and is the same person who does the short film.  Also, the music is quite soothing and makes this the perfect app before naptime or bedtime.  Something that is unique to this app is that it is a wonderful story for children and young-at-heart, plus it includes so many interesting features about the making of the short film, it is sure to drawn in older children and adults!   LaLuna.Screenshot2   You can find La Luna on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id657554982?mt=8   Good news!  Disney has provided us with 5 codes for La Luna for our lovely dandelion moms!  Good Luck!
