Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest Airs October 28th

We love Curious George!   And we love Halloween!  So we are so excited to tell you about the first ever CURIOUS GEORGE Halloween special – CURIOUS GEORGE: A Halloween Boo Fest. The PBS Kids one-hour special celebrates curiosity, friendship and trying new things, all while providing safe and family-friendly holiday entertainment. CURIOUS GEORGE: A Halloween Boo Fest features three original songs, including “It’s Halloween Today,” sung by Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train. As part of this multiplatform event, CURIOUS GEORGE will also feature a new game for web and mobile and new streaming video content this October.  And make sure to check out the PBS Kids website for some printables for the kids.

“Consistently a favorite among kids and parents alike, CURIOUS GEORGE takes viewers on adventures grounded in a science and engineering curriculum,” said Lesli Rotenberg, General Manager, Children’s Programming, PBS. “We’re excited to bring this new special from one of our most popular series to families this Halloween on PBS KIDS.”  You can preview the special here: https://youtu.be/thxDb1vUWEI

Online, a new Halloween-themed CURIOUS GEORGE game will launch in late October on pbskids.org/curiousgeorge. In the game, players will use problem-solving and logical thinking skills as they explore a pumpkin patch with George, encountering playful spooky surprises along the way. Developed in HTML5, the game will be playable across platforms – on computers, mobile devices or tablets. Families will be able to stream clips from CURIOUS GEORGE: A Halloween Boo Fest for free on the PBS KIDS Video App, online at pbskids.org/video and on the PBS KIDS Roku channel.

Some Insight from the Executive Producer of Curious George:

I had a chance to ask the Executive Producer of Curious George, Dorothea Gillim, about the inspiration behind creating the first ever Curious George Halloween special.  Here is what she had to say about our favorite monkey:

I read that this is the first Curious George Halloween Special.  What was the inspiration behind creating this special? Doing a preschool Halloween special is tricky (no pun intended) because we wanted it to be fun but not too scary. That idea led to the inspiration for the Boo Fest, a Halloween celebration George goes to that embraces the idea of the “fun scare” — that way kids can giggle with delight when someone says “boo!”
What was your favorite Halloween costume you wore as a kid?  And how did you all decide what Curious George would be for Halloween? (If he is in a costume). Favorite costume is a toss up – one year I was an Oreo and one year I was a Fig Newton. I guess you can tell I loved cookies as a kids (still do). I can’t answer the second question because it would give away the ending of the Halloween special. Watch it and you’ll find out how we chose George’s costume!
Thanks Dorothea!  We are looking forward to watching Curious George celebrate Halloween!
