Fashion :: A Love Affair with Fall Coats

My love affair with coats probably started while I lived abroad and experienced what cold weather really meant while living in Japan.  It happened that the city I lived in, Shizuoka Prefecture, was known for having mild winters, but for a Southern California transplant they were much more severe than what I had grown up with.  Since then, I have had this…  need I say obsession with coats.  My husband will just shake his head if I bring home a new coat I found at our local resale boutique (BEST place to get coats) and have a look in his eyes like Really?  You need another one? And I just hang it up tenderly in my closet excited for the next cold day I can wear it.  I will sell my clothes at the resale boutique so it is usually a wash so the guilt is not there! Below, I found some amazing coats that are in fashion this fall season.  But really, if you get a classic trench coat or pea coat, you will have a coat you can wear for years.  And I do mean years!  Long before my daughter was born (over 7 years now) I found the best black trench coat by an Italian maker (at Loehman’s – another great place for coats) that I will able to wear for another 10 years no problem.  So look at it as an investment and check your local resale boutiques and discounted retailers like Marshalls or even Macys!  Have fun my coat-loving friend!

Add Some Color In Your Life:

Wow!  This is my absolute favorite of all the coats I found – from the amazing red coat to the adorable dress and haircut.  I had this haircut in my twenties (think Sharon Stone style circa 90’s) and love how it looks with this fantastic coat.  In my last post I talked about how red is a color that looks great on most people – this is a wonderful addition that will brighten any winter day!  Image found in Pinterest.

Burberry is Always In Style:

A girl can dream can’t she?  I love this camel-colored coat and of course the amazing bag she is casually holding on her shoulder.  Dear Santa – please see above and I promise to eat all my peas and carrots if I you bring me this coat and purse.  Oh, sorry, I was dreaming again.  But seriously, I think camel colored coats are a great staple and many brands carry this style and color.  Happy Hunting!  Image courtesy of Nordstrom.

 Fall Fashion Trend 2013

This coat is by Moschino and was shown during Fall Fashion Week 2013 but really is a timeless style.  In fact, this is similar to the black coat I was mentioning I purchased over 10 years ago at Loehmans (and happens to be a Moschino).  Love the gray with white trim and velvet blue buttons – so simple yet what a gorgeous idea!  Image courtesy of Vogue.

Anthropologie Does It So Well:

One of my favorite stores is Anthropologie and I love to just look around the store for home design ideas.  The clothing lines they carry are unique and this coat doesn’t disappoint.  They can be a bit pricey but if you catch their sales you might be surprised what bargains you can find! This  cream colored trench coat is available online on Anthropologie.com.

Gray Coats are Always In-Style:

This light colored gray is one of my favorite colors to wear and love this style.  Love how it buttons on the side to add little something something as well as how it ties in front.  Very cute.  And best of all – it is available through Etsy for under $70.  A stylish-wool jacket under $100 – very cool!  You can find it here on Esty in two other colors.  Have fun!

Zara Winter Coats:

I liked this coat as it can be dressed up or down.  But I what I really want to know is where I can find those boots!  Check out Zara online to see their big selection of reasonably priced winter coats.  Image courtesy of Fab Fashion Fix.

A Must Have :: A Casual Coat

I have been looking for a coat like this one.  It looks stylish but causal enough to wear every day.  Again, Zara has a ton of coats available and this might be your go-to coat for busy moms!  Image found at Fab Fashion Fix.

Add More Color In Your Life:

I love this color and happy to see it is in for Fall 2013.  It is such a gorgeous color and looks amazing on most women!  You really can’t go wrong if you go with this style coat – whatever color you choose!  Image found at Style.com.

 Block Colors Are In-Style:

We keep hearing about this style and though it might not be my favorite – it is pretty cute!  I like how the black is on the lower part of the coat so as to hid any imperfections (and if you had kids you appreciate this!).  Talbots makes some quality clothing and the few items I have purchased from that store have lasted quite a long time.  Image found at Pumps and Gloss.

These are just some of my favorite coats I found and would happily wear any and all of them (I am currently working my on Dear Santa letter).  Have fun and be creative.  Make sure to check in your closet to see what you might need for this fall season.  Jean jackets are back in full force as are khaki cotton coats.  And you can never go wrong with a trench coat style – just make sure to try out some new colors that you might not have thought of wearing before.  Enjoy!
