Fashion :: Winter Hat Trends 2013

I love hats!  I know I mentioned that I love coats and boots in several of my posts… but I am seeing more and more hats being worn by both men and women and I love it!  My husband on the other hand, is not a big fan of seeing men wearing Fedora hats and thinks they look better on women than men, but I personally say bring back the days of women and men wearing stylish hats.   Disneyland even makes some cute fedora hats and I purchased one on our last trip because I forgot to bring one to the park.  I love the contrast polka dots and stripes on this hat and wear it to soccer games and whenever we are out and about in the sun. One of the reasons I so enjoy watching Mad Men (besides the obvious reason of seeing Don Draper every week) is seeing the 1960’s fashion – which included hats.  I read that hats started falling out of fashion around the time President Kennedy came into office and was not a big proponent of wearing hats.  Fast forward to the 21st century and we have seen hats being worn more and more.  Love these knitted hats and the 1920’s inspired Cloche hats.  Try one out this winter and see yourself transformed!

Knitted Hats:

Most any of these hats would look great on the slopes!  We went on our first ski trip in years last February and it was so much fun to see how the new ski fashions had changed in the years since I was on the slopes.  Any of these knitted hats should do the trick to keep you warm and stylish!  We are seeing the traditional black but also trendy colors such as pinks, emerald green (love this color), pastels and other vibrant (and happy) colors.  Some designers collections had ethnic and geometric patterns but it appears that most stuck to one color.  I love the chunky knitted hats seen with the Giles (pink) hat.

Cloche Hats:

Love the 1920’s – inspired cloche hats!  I picked one of these hats up at Marshall’s of all places and love how it looks on!  They are very ladylike and would look great at a holiday party, wedding, cocktail party or even a night out with the girls. You can mix this hat with a dress, skirt suits, and coats – especially a trench coat.  Image found at Fashionisers.

 

 

 

 

Fedora Hats:

Fedora Hats were first designed in the 19th century and worn by men.  But now we see them available in unisex sizes and can be worn just about anywhere.  Like I mentioned, I wear my pretty much anywhere and especially on bad hair days.  They make them in leather, straw, suede and this cool number is made in velvet.  You can make it with a printed dress or a pair of trousers.  I tend to wear mine with jeans and a sweater.  I think they are pretty versatile!  Images found at Fashionisers.
