Latest & Greatest :: The Nut Job by Cupcake Digital

I can’t wait to see The Nut Job with my daughter next week.  One of our favorite mother-daughter activities is to check out the latest (children) movie releases and this movie looks really fun!   App developer Cupcake Digital has recently released The Nut Job app that includes a story, games, coloring pages and even a trailer for the movie.  The graphics are straight from the movie and are crystal clear.  The story starts off with Surly Squirrel overlooking the city from atop a tree in Liberty Park.  He is so surly that his only friend is a rat named Buddy.  You can turn on or off the music and the story is read to you, with words highlighted as it is read.

I really enjoyed the pictures as they are straight from the movie which only adds to our excitement to see The Nut Job! In the next scene we find Surly raiding a nut cart, hoping to steal the goodies inside.  But he accidentally caused the cart to go up in flames and it shot through Liberty Park like a fireball.  It sure sounds like Surly is up to no good – a perfect character to be entertained by.  Unfortunately though, the cart caused all of their food supplies to burn up and the park’s leader, Raccoon, put up a vote to have poor Surly cast out of the park.  So Surly and his pal, Buddy, had to hit the streets of Oakton.  There was danger everyone!  Honking cars to rat thugs were just some of the things they had to avoid.  Luckily they came about a dream-come-true shop – Maury’s Nut Shop!  Surly had believed they had found the lost city of Nut-lantis because there were nuts everywhere!  The story goes and we are introduced to a brave squirrel, Andie who also came upon the nut shop and realized that there was enough food to feed the entire park for years to come!

Luckily, Andie was able to convince Surly to split the nuts with their friends back home, and told him he might be accepted back.  So the adventure begins and Andie brought some animals from the park to help out with Surly’s scheme: The Nut Job.  This is a really fun story and an interactive app.  At any time you can click the home button to be brought back to start of the story.  The games include Whack a Rat (always love these games), Acorn Scramble, Squirrel Bounce and Gone Nuts.  There is even a scoreboard that keeps your score from all the different games you play.  I like this feature in games as it keeps the kids on task and they work harder to beat their last score.  The coloring section are pages from the movie and you have the option of painting the scenes with a brush, crayon, chalk, spray and bucket paint and adding stickers to your masterpiece.  You can also take a picture that you can email to a family member or pal.
