Latest & Greatest :: PBS Kids Releases Dinosaur Train A to Z

By now you probably know what a big fan I am of the PBS Kids show Dinosaur Train – seriously how smart is that to combine trains and dinosaurs!  My daughter has watched this show since it was released a few years back.  I love learning about dinosaurs right along with her as it has been while since I studied about dinosaurs in school.  My favorite was always the Stegosaurus  because he was a plant eater and had those cool spikes on his back.  PBS Kids recently released Dinosaur Train A to Z is the ultimate dinosaur app from the hit PBS KIDS show Dinosaur Train. The app not only help kids build reading skills, but also will encourage the exploration of life science and natural history through discovery, play and reading.

Targeting kids ages 3-6, the app is designed to extend the series’ science curriculum and PBS KIDS’ focus on STEM education. Through the letters of the alphabet, kids will learn about 26 dinosaurs by touching and feeding them, x-raying them, discovering dinosaur facts and more.  The first page opens up and you have a choice to play with the train or dinosaurs.  When you touch the train and swipe it, it has the alphabet on it from A to Z.  When I touched W it brought me to the dinosaur Wannanosaurus with an explanation about this particular dinosaur and a picture of what he looked like.  Did you know that the Wannanosaurus was a pachycephalosaur dinosaur that lived in Asia during the Cretaceous Time Period?  Me neither.  With this fun app, the entire family can learn about all 26 dinosaurs.  When you swipe the arrows that are placed on the outside of the page you are taken to the next letter in the alphabet and told more about the dinosaur that starts with a V.  V is for Velociraptor and is a small feathered dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous.  Its only been found in Asia and lived in a desert habitat with sand dunes.  One of the features available is the ability to see the dinosaurs through an x-ray.  And when you push another button, it goes into detail about that dinosaur.  For example, the Velociraptor is derived from the Latin words for quick and robber.  It was given this name by scientists because it was a very fast carnivore.  Also, at any time you can push on the sentence to have a word repeated back.  It has a read-along feature as well.

When you push the DINOSAUR button at the top, it takes you to all 26 of the dinosaurs listed from A to Z.  YOu can find out which ones were carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.  Also, did they walk on land or were they marine animals.  Plus the time periods are listed as well – see how lived during the Triassic, Jurassic or Cretaceous time period. You have the option to buy packs of dinosaurs such as the Horned/Armored or Crested Dinosaurs, Winged and Feathered, Carnivores and many more Dinosaur Packs.  I really enjoyed learning more about dinosaurs with my daughter and I am sure we will be playing with this app for some time now.
