10 Delicious Mother’s Day Recipes!
Mother’s Day is coming up next month and my husband asked me what I wanted to do for the day. I mentioned that I thought breakfast in bed would be nice and searched for some easy recipes that my daughter could help out with! This is the perfect time to let the women in your life know how special you think they are. I am all for homemade gifts and a relaxing day with the family either at the park or beach. What is your ideal way to spend Mother’s Day? Here are some delicious recipes to try out as well as two cute DIY trays that you can make as a gift and serve breakfast in bed to that special someone. I bet this would make a great Father’s Day gift as well. Enjoy!
DIY Pressed Flower Petal Tray:
This is such a great idea from Say Yes. She used flowers from around her garden and pressed them in books to get thme flat. This would make for a fun activity to do with the kids and have them select which flowers, leaves and tree branches they want to use. You can read how to make your own here.
DIY Chalk paint Tray:
This is a fun idea from Lemon Tree Dwelling. She provides a tutorial on her site here. I like that you can use this tray for any special occasion and change up what you write on the tray depending on the event!
For the Woman Who Likes Sweets:
Nutella French Toast:
YUM! My French girlfriend introduced me to nutella – and yikes! It is so delicious on just plain bread so I can only image how yummy this will taste with fresh strawberries and butter. To read how to make your own go to My Honeys Place.
Baked Blueberry French Toast:
This looks delicious and so pretty. I like that you can make one for everyone in the family to enjoy. And a plus – blueberries are one of the healthiest fruits around! To read how to make this yummy dish go to the nutritional epiphany.
French Toast on a Stick:
This is a fun idea I am sure the kids would love to help make – and eat! Just skewer your favorite fruit and cut up homemade French toast and voila – a fun way to eat Mother’s Day breakfast. To read how to make this recipe go to weelicious.
Mini Frittata’s:
I love to make frittata’s which are basically quiche without the crust. This is a great Paleo style breakfast as there isn’t any gluten in this recipe. Plus I like that they can be eaten on the run on school days if needed. To read more go to Snacking In The Kitchen.
Asparagus and Leek Quiche:
I love the combination of asparagus and leeks! Quiches are so easy to make and they always turn out super yummy! They are perfect to bring to a brunch party as well. To read how to make this delicious quiche go to PBS.org or head over to Malibu Kitchen if you want to make your own crust (healthy and vegan – what’s not to love about this recipe) instead of using a pre-made one. Two options – you decide.
Berry Yogurt:
This looks delicious as well! Just a bit of granola (it can be high in fat) topped with fruit in a little jar looks wonderful and don’t forget the agave or honey! Such a simple and healthy treat that’s easy on your pocketbook the way Heather makes this. You could even make this as a side dish to the main course. Plus it would make a great snack for the kids after school as well. To read more go to WhipperBerry.
Gluten-Free Recipes:
Gluten-Free Pancakes:
These would be perfect for the person who is avoiding gluten. This recipe calls for almond flour and soy or almond milk. To read how to make these pancakes go to Fit Sugar.
Paleo Recipes:
Poached Eggs with baked tomatoes:
I have to admit – I don’t think I have tried a poached egg before but after seeing this delicious meal – I just might have to try it! Paleo recipes call for mostly lean meats, fresh vegetables and fruit, healthy fats (think lots of avocado) and no wheat products. Last year I started eating Paleo style and to-date have lost about 15 pounds. I think as we get older it is harder to process wheat products – at least for me I feel much better when I don’t eat gluten. To read how to make this delicious meal that can be eaten any time of the day go to Daily Mail.
Brussels Sprouts Hash Breakfast
This Paleo recipe also looks really yummy! I like the idea of making a vegetable hash and topping it with an egg or two. To read how to make this go to How Sweet Eats.
Poached Eggs and Asparagus:
I love eating vegetables for breakfast. That is one of the benefits of the Paleo diet – is they encourage you to try foods at all times of the day and to open your mind to what are usually “dinner” foods and include them in your breakfast. My new vegetable these days is sautéed spinach with my eggs and it helps me start off the day right. In fact recent research has found that those who eat protein in the morning stay fuller longer than eating wheat protein. (Source: Daily Mail). Directions on how to make this healthy breakfast can be found on Health.com.
