Disneynature BEARS:

Last week I attended the Disney Social Media Moms conference with my family and had a wonderful time!  It really was a dream trip for my whole family and I plan to write more about the trip and how I have a newfound love for anything to do with Walt Disney.  What a truly inspirational man and visionary!  As part of the conference, we were treated to a pre-launch viewing of the new Disneynature movie BEARS.  I really love nature movies and I told the dad who I sat next to in the theater to not be alarmed if I started crying as I usually cry (usually happy tears) in these nature films!

You Become Part of the Family:

The movie was really great!  It showcases a family of bears – a mama bear and her two cubs who are taught some very important life lessons as they make their way across the terrain in Alaska.  Their journey begins as winter comes to an end and the family comes out of hibernation.  The cubs find the world outside to be quite exciting but not without some dangers!  There are a few scary moments when we aren’t sure if one of the cubs is safe from a territorial male, but overall I think the movie is fine for toddlers on up.

Cinematographer, Warwick Sloss, filming two grizzly bears.

The close ups of the family are amazing!  You really feel like you are part of them as they encounter other bears in the fields and streams looking for a meal.  As you can see in the image above, the filmmakers get really close to the bears! You realize throughout the film how absolutely massive these bears really are through the close ups.  You even get to meet the local wolf who keeps trying to get at one of the cubs for a meal.  He is quite handsome – though you are definitely cheering for the bear family!  Again, not to worry, this film is just fine for youngsters.

John C. Reilly is the narrator and he does a great job of showcasing the bear’s journey and throws in some humor as well.  Of course he does!  I love him in the comedy movies he has done (think Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby) and but I think he is a great actor.  He really adds a lot to this movie and you find yourself laughing at the cubs expressions and situations they find themselves in at times.

Educational Materials:

Make sure to check out the Disneynature website as they have a great list of educational materials  you can download and  do with the kids!

You can check out a clip of BEARS here courtesy of Disneynature. And if you are local to Southern California – the El Capitan Theatre is showcasing Disneynature Bears at their theater from April 18th through May 14th. You can get tickets and more information here.

Note:  We were treated to a pre-showing of the movie BEARS as part of the Disney Social Media Moms conference, but this did not affect our opinion in any way.  We are a fan of this wonderful movie from Disneynature!
