Garden :: 10 Unique Container Gardening Ideas

Yesterday my daughter and I visited our local nursery and I was inspired to work on my back patio this spring.  We don’t have a large area so the following are great ideas for small spaces.  It is probably a good thing since I don’t have a ton of extra time like most moms – but I do get a lot of pleasure working in the garden and love to see when it is all cleaned up and looking good!  Now if I can just get my (almost) one year old 110+ puppy to not eat the new flowers we planted!

Fabric Covered Planters = Divine!

Hands down this is my absolute FAVORITE idea I came across on Pinterest!  We have some leftover fabric that we can use on some plain and boring ceramic planters we have laying around in the garage.  This would make such a nice gift as well!  Henry Happened provides a wonderful tutorial on how to make your own gorgeous fabric-covered planters here.

Stunning Recycle Tin Containers:

This is another favorite I came across from HGTV.  It would be fun to start collecting these old tin containers and you could probably find some on eBay!  To read how to make your own go to HGTV.

Add a Pop of Color:

Love this idea from HGTV as well.  You can find old desks through Craigs List, eBay or garage sales and paint it your favorite color.  Add some hanging plants inside the drawers and viola – you have a rather unique planter you can display at the front of your house if you have room or even your back patio.  Love this!  Read more here.

Get the Kids Involved:

This is such a great way to get the kids excited about gardening!  Each of them could pick out their initial and plant to their hearts content.  Henry Happened has some great ideas here.

The Circus Is Coming To Town:

Another favorite!  Oh, who am I kidding – I love all of these clever ideas!  My next children’s book and app is all about the traveling circus so I have a soft spot for this circus-themed container.  If you want, you can check out some of the amazing illustrations Carolyn Le did here. Love her work!  What a clever idea from House of Hawthornes to use circus paraphernalia instead of the usual fairy trinkets.  Such a fun idea and you can make your own!  More ideas found on House of Hawthornes who is a great resource for unique gardening ideas!

A Wagon Wheel of Herbs:

What a neat and unique way to grow your herbs!  Love this idea and I must find a wagon wheel!  I will try eBay as you can’t believe the things you will find there and maybe Craig’s List as well!  To find out how to make your own go to Two Men and a Little Farm here.

A Modern Take:

This looks so great it would be cool in your house if you have the space to hang it on a wall.  I love how each row has one type of herb for your very own herb garden to cook with!  More ideas at Homemade-Modern.

Scrabble it Up!

I love to see Scrabble pieces used in crafts!  When my daughter was first born one of the presents we received was an adorable handmade hanger with her name written in Scrabble pieces. I still have that hanger!  This would make a really fun craft to do with the kids and they can practice their spelling at the same time.  Read how to make your own on the site Sow And Dipity.
