What Moms Really Want for Mother’s Day

She changed your diapers, fixed your boo-boos and, let’s not forget—she also brought you into this world. Don’t thank Mom with a mediocre dinner and box of chocolates this year—instead, put some thought into discovering what she really wants (like she does for you each time your birthday rolls around!). Here are a few thoughtful ways to appreciate Mom this Mother’s Day.

Relaxation

A study recently conducted by Forbes.com and TheBump.com reported that 92 percent of working moms and 89 percent of stay-at-home moms feel overwhelmed by work, home and parenting duties. Even if there are no kids around at your parents’ house these days, your mother likely still spends hours upon hours putting others first. Give your mom a “Free Day” and help clear her schedule so she can relax either at home or at a spa. Take over the cooking and cleaning for the day, run any errands that she has on her list, and insist she spend the day relaxing and being cared for. Give her a personalized bath caddy complete with her favorite book, glass of wine and a lavender candle to encourage an afternoon that’s all hers.

Memories

Before our smartphones made photo taking and photo storage ultra-simple, our drawers were filled with shoe boxes of printed photos waiting for a day to be organized. For many busy moms, that day never came and those memories lay stagnant to this day. Surprise Mom by gathering up the best pictures and organizing them in a photo album or scrapbook. Theme the album around some of your favorite vacations or family celebrations, or create an album as a tribute to Mom. If other family members are nearby, have them sign it or add their own personalized touch to make it a surprise group gift. Mom will be touched that the family put time, thought and effort into making her feel appreciated.

Indulgences

Replenish Mom’s energy with a day of pampering and indulgences, starting with a massage to relieve stress, pain or muscle tension, followed by a pedicure. Place your spa gift certificate in a basket with her favorite book, movie, wine or pastries. Or if you’re not the crafty kind, have a Mother’s Day gift basket from FTD delivered and waiting for her when she gets home from her spa day.

Organization

Ever wonder how she keeps it together? Staying organized takes skills and thanks to her trusty planner, she’s got it down to a science. Sure, you could download a calendar app on her smartphone but busy moms rarely have time to worry about digital reliability. Replace her old and worn organizer with a personalized life planner that incorporates bright designs and clever layouts to streamline birthday reminders, appointments, and beyond.
