Dwell :: 7 Decorating Ideas for Summer
Summer is here and time to get your home decked out for the summer months. I love the lightness of summer and try to change up simple things like different (inexpensive IKEA) pillows, throws, and add seashells around to help bring the beach back to our place. Nothing says summer quite like flowers, butterflies, and bright colors. If you tend to decorate with neutrals, now is the time to add some color with these simple and inexpensive ideas. Enjoy!
A Colorful Entryway:
I just love this idea from Home Talk. Take your favorite chalkboard and hand it by your front door to greet your friends and neighbors. Have the kids help draw some of their favorite things about summer. To see more go to Home Talk.
Dress Up Your Mantle:
Nothing says summer than bright colors! Love how fresh this mantle looks with the bright ceramics and flowers. Look around your house to see what might look good together. I even take some things out of my daugther’s room occasionally to dress up our mantle with some classic toys. Add some fun – why not? It’s summertime! Image found in Indac.
Add Some Greenery:
This is such a great idea to help bring summer into your house. Check your local discounted store to see if they carry seashells and just add some of your favorite succulents. Image found at Milapuntocom.com
DIY Seashell Candle:
What a great idea from Song Bird Blog! Such a pretty way to showcase your seashells and containers! Read how to make your own seaside candle that can be enjoyed inside and outside at Song Bird Blog.
Summer Beach Garland
I just love these mom bloggers! They have the most creative ideas. This gorgeous DIY summer garland is strung across an old barn door the blogger over at Finding Home Online found. You would be surprised what your local Marshall’s or TJMaxx carries in their Home section – you just might find an interesting wood piece that you can use for this craft. Fresh Flowers Centerpiece:
I love bringing the outside in with fresh cut flowers! This display would be really easy to make and would cost next to nothing – especially if you have a cute tray and candle already laying around the house. There are a ton more ideas at Shelterness.com for more summer candle centerpiece ideas here.
DIY Bright Dresser:
When I saw this I just had to share. This would look so great in a tween or college dormitory or even your craft room! Such a gorgeous idea to use these fabrics and cover a used dresser. Image found on Decozilla.
