Fashion :: Summer Essentials to Look and Feel Great!

Peonies are in season (yippee!!), the weather is warmer (with the exception of SoCal where we have the “June Gloom”. Grrr.), barbecue’s are happening every weekend and days at the pool and beach are starting to become a regular occurance. Summer may not officially be here but it is fun to prepare and think about adding a few summer essentials to get you started. You don’t need much to look cool, comfortable and polished.

A denim short. This looks great with a t-shirt, a crisp white shirt or even a flowy blouse. I like that this one has a longer inseam.  Some may think this style is dowdy , this one is anything but. J. Crew got it just right.. The distressed wash gives it an updated vibe.

Gladiator sandal or , as I like to call this look , a modified gladiator. Trade your flip flops for a sandal like this to give it a more pulled together look. There are so many great styles out there.  Love this one from DV.

Hats are a must at the pool or beach to protect our faces from the sun. They can also help conceal “not so perfect “hair when you have gotten it wet. While a fedora is fun, the Panama is the update. It does not hurt that is gives even a little more protection with the wider brim. Panama hat from J crew.

Since I mentioned hair I feel I should share this product. I have not yet tried this but my good friend Jill, who lives on the east coast,  swears by it.  It tames frizz for those sultry east coast summers. We may not have that here in SoCal but, if you are traveleing to a more balmy location this summer, give this a try.  This oil is available at Nordstrom.

I think it looks so cool when I see photo of a celebrity around the pool or beach with layers of cool bracelets or necklaces. I just can’t seem to bring myyself to actually do it… because…well…  its kind of annoying to have all that on??? I am however OBSESSED with this find. This bracelet is from a company called The Ropes. These bracelts are handmade and use real nautical ropes (hence the name). They are meant to celebrate Maine’s maritime culture and the beautiful coastline of New England. This is something I can wrap my head around as far as beach/pool jewelry. The Ropes bracelet available at JCrew.

A great cover up is something and you will have for seasons to come!  It’s key to have when those pool or beach days get longer and throwing this over your bathing suit is a breeze.Lace trim cover up from Loft.

This is the jumpsuits little sister; the romper. They are for adults too! I promise if you get one you feel comfortable in,  you will want to romp  around in it  (did I say that?) all summer. Like I said, summer is not officially here so this is just a taste of what I have in mind.  Romper is available at The Loft.

In the meantime go out and get those peonies as they will soon be gone until next year!! They only arrive once a year.  My last few. Until next time Dandelion Moms.
