Easy Back-To-School Lunch Ideas
I have been hearing a lot of complaints from my daughter about her school lunch. And most days her lunch box comes home full. Yikes! She has been hitting the school cafeteria and her food choices are not quite as healthy as I would like them to be. So I went on a hunt for more recipes that I can easily do the night before (if I am that organized) or in the morning before she heads off to school (which is more likely). Below are some healthy recipes, eazy peezy ideas and even a few hot lunches as I have had this request too! Here’s to offering our kids a variety at lunchtime!
Include Vegetables and a Dip:
I like that this has a variety of food to choose from. And you can add peanut or almond butter to dip the vegetables in and add in some healthy carob or chocolate chips to make this a fun and tasty treat! More great ideas found on The Organic Kitchen.
Ribbet!
When I was a kid, I LOVED frogs! We use to go fishing and I would always bring some little guy back with me to put in my fish bowl. Poor thing! I still love them today – and this fun lunch is healthy and silly – a good combination when trying to get picky eaters to eat more! Found on This Lunch Rox. Here’s a joke for you (couldn’t resist). What do you say to a hitch-hiking frog? Hop in!
Leftovers Anyone?
Another great lunch idea from The Organic Kitchen includes leftovers that the kids will love! She has some great tips to help you get the school lunches together and offer variety. I know we don’t always switch it up enough for my daughter’s lunch and she has responded in such by running to the cafeteria to get some of her meals. So hopefully, by offering more choices, we will see less of that! Read more at The Organic Kitchen.
Pizza for lunch!
Great ideas from the folks over at Eat Wholly! Lots of great lunchbox recipes that include avocado – which is about one of the best foods you and your kids could eat! I eat 1/2 avocado almost every day! Read more great recipes here.
Soup and Sandwich:
Who wouldn’t love a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch? I would love to eat this lunch myself! Mamabelly has some great lunch ideas that don’t include any PB&J. And if you get a small thermos, warm soup could be on the menu too! Read more here.

My oldest and my youngest almost always eat the same thing day in and day out for lunch: pb&j for the 4 yr old and ham & cheese with mustard for my 8 yr old. My 6 yr old will change things up some, alternating between pb&j, ham & cheese roll-ups, or grilled cheese.

I love these ideas! It sure beats the heck out of a regular sandwich and chips. My favorite was the grilled cheese my mom would take me during lunch. 🙂
