DIY Modern Holiday Decor Ideas

This trio just might be my favorite Christmas decorations! So simple but fun!

This weekend we are working on decorating our home and front porch in all things Christmas!  But this year, I feel like changing it up a bit and only putting out things I really, truly love.  I picked up a book at the store the other day called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japananse art of decluttering and organizing by Marie Kondo which I plan to do a write up about soon.  But one of the things she writes about is to make sure you only have in your home things that bring you joy. Luckily, she provides tips to do this, but it stuck with me when I was going through our holiday boxes and I put away many items I usually decorate with for the holidays.  Frankly, I wasn’t crazy about some of them!  So I went in search of some modern DIY ideas that I do love and here is what I found! Some of them are definitely on my To-Do List!  Enjoy!

DIY PVC-Pipe Christmas Tree:

This fun DIY PVC-Pipe Christmas Tree is found on Martha Stewart with an easy tutorial.  I love how colorful this tree is and you can add in whatever color scheme you want – more traditional greens and reds or for a more modern take – greens, teals and pinks.

A Modern Take:

This is such a great idea from CB2!  I love their inexpensive modern products and have purchases several items throughout the years from them.  This wire wreath can be used all year long and can be found on CB2.  And I plan to write this December calendar on our chalk board – fun idea!

Color and More Color:

One of the things you take away from Modern Décor ideas are the colors they use.  There are some greens and reds, but mix in less traditional colors like teals, blues and pinks to get a more modern design.  Found on Creating Really Awesome Free Things.

I like those globe snowmen! Christmas around the world! I like the nutcrackers my mom decorates with. One of my new favorite pieces is a painting of a Christmas tree that my grandson did in an art class. It glows in the dark! And I KNEW it was your fault that I spent money on The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up. Now all I need is a Tidy person to help me!
