Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic Honor Southern California Veterans

Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic Honor Southern California Veterans by Donating Nearly 300 New Mattresses

Companies Partner with PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) and Local City Government to Host Weeklong Donation Events in Honor of Veterans Day

Iconic local mattress retailer Sit ‘n Sleep announced last week that it has teamed with Tempur-Pedic, the most highly recommended bed in America, to honor Southern California’s veterans during the week leading up to Veterans Day, November 5-11. Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic North America, LLC are donating hundreds of new mattresses with matching foundations and bedframes to four Southern California PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) locations throughout the week, which will be distributed to local homeless veterans in need. I love hearing about companies helping their communities and I think this collaboration between Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic is just wonderful!  Our veterans need our support and it is so great they are providing hundreds of beds for them!

Together Sit ‘n Sleep and PATH will host four days of donation events in various locations throughout Southern California. Donation event attendees will include Mayors or other city officials, Sit ‘n Sleep founder and CEO Larry Miller, Path CEO Joel John Roberts, and local veterans. Sit ‘n Sleep trucks will make daily stops to deliver mattresses to each of the below PATH facilities. Local officials will be speaking during each event, including ‎Veterans Affairs Coordinator, Joseph Chicas, from the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider, and Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, as well as Sit ‘n Sleep and PATH’s CEOs. The following locations will receive the new mattresses, foundations and bedframes:

 Helping Our Veterans:

“We cannot think of more deserving recipients for this donation than our returning veterans. The donation is our small way of saying ‘thank you’ from everyone at Sit ‘n Sleep for their service and sacrifice they made and continue to make for us.” Sit ‘n Sleep CEO Larry Miller said. “These brave men and women risk their lives to defend our country and it’s a disgrace that so many of them return home without safe, comfortable housing. We hope that the donated mattresses provide the healthy good night’s sleep that our local heroes deserve.”

Veterans devote their life to fighting for our country, but unfortunately, many struggle with finding employment once returning to civilian life, and nearly 12 percent of all post-9/11 veterans in Los Angeles County live at poverty levels. PATH works to end homelessness for individuals, families, and communities, and is one of the organizations that dedicates resources to helping veterans get back on their feet. However, even after permanent housing is established, some veterans don’t have the means to buy proper mattresses and must resort to sleeping on air mattresses, sleeping bags, or even the floor. Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic will honor our courageous military servicemen and women this Veterans Day by making their return to Southern California easier and more comfortable with the new mattresses.

“We’re thrilled to be able to give back to Southern California’s hardworking veterans during Veterans Day,” says Patrice Varni, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing, Tempur-Pedic North America, LLC. “The donation shows our commitment to honoring the sacrifices made by our veterans and also brings attention to the plight many face upon returning home. Our goal is that the new Tempur-Pedic mattresses provide much-deserved comfort and support for our soldiers.”

“PATH is thrilled to partner with Sit n’ Sleep and Tempur-Pedic,” says Joel John Roberts, CEO, PATH. “PATH has helped more than 1,200 service men and women make it home since January 2013 and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of business partners like Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic. Mattresses and other furniture are an essential part of helping every homeless veteran move off the streets into a place that truly feels like home.”

For over thirty years, Sit ‘n Sleep has been dedicated to helping local charities in Southern California including Habitat for Humanity, Make a Wish, City of Hope, Cell-Ed, Concern Foundation, and Jewish Vocational Services, to name a few. Sit ‘n Sleep has also been a longtime supporter of veterans, which is seen through the company’s work with the California Department of Veterans Affairs to recruit and place veterans in open job positions within the company.
