THOMAS & FRIENDS Watch and Play

Released today by PBS Kids, THOMAS & FRIENDS Watch and Play is designed for preschoolers and available on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch! This is the first-ever Thomas app to offer full-length episodes, in addition to games that promote key problem-solving skills for preschoolers as they build, fix and create train tracks and scenes.

I had a chance to review THOMAS & FRIENDS with my daughter.  The app opens up to the screen you see above and you choose what activity you would like to play. The kids will definitely be entertained if they touch Thomas the Engine face in the middle of the screen, he smiles and blows his engine!  I love the narrator’s voice and he makes it easy for little ones to follow the instructions.

Though this is created for preschoolers, my second grader enjoyed this app!
The app is easy to navigate around.

We started with the Track Builder as my daughter is all about building these days.  She liked building her own track and said it was really easy.  She experimented with different tracks and built a pretty cool one with several helicopters flying around. To add to your track,  just click on the tree on the far right and it allows you to add in tracks, stations, helicopters, trees and much more.  Here is what she built in no time flat.

Just use your finger to build any type of train track you want.

And if you want to erase what you built, just use the eraser at the top corner so you can start over.  Also, when you touch your favorite engine, Percy, or Thomas or James, they will either toot their horn or turn the opposite direction so you have control on where they move on the railroad track you built.   There are a lot of games that challenge preschoolers ability to problem solve.

They also offer a chance to take a picture using the images you see below.  Once you design your scene with your favorite engine, take a picture and send it to friends and family.

This is the first-ever Thomas app to offer full-length episodes.  I think this is a great addition to any preschoolers library.  These types of app make learning fun!  We use to spend hours on the floor playing with Thomas the Engine toys and building train tracks. I think this is one of the reasons my daughter enjoys math and creating buildings and villages on Minecraft.  Encouraging your little engineer with games such as this is a great way to build up their love of creating, building and problem-solving.  All skills important in school and life.

THOMAS & FRIENDS Watch and Play is available in the app store.
