The Perfect Gift for Father’s Day!
Last week my daughter’s teacher gave this adorable succulent gift to the volunteer’s that helped out this year. She had all the children sign the glass vase with their names. I thought this would make the perfect Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day and yes, Teacher Appreciation Day gift! For Father’s Day – you can have your kids write Happy Father’s Day and then have them sign it. Or whatever strikes your fancy! A favorite quote perhaps? This gift really touched my heart and I know that I will treasure it always! Right now it is sitting next to my computer. She said she used succulent’s from her mother’s garden and made about 20 of them. Personalized gifts are just the best and I know that anyone would love to receive this sweet present that can sit next to their computer at work (it’s good Feng Shui!) or perhaps their bedside table so they are reminded how much they are loved.
You can find the glass jars at your local Dollar Tree or craft supplies store. She said she used sharpie oil based paint pens as they will not rub off. Succulents like cactus soil and she filled them about halfway up so that the plant would just peep out the top.
As you know by now, I absolutely adore succulents because they just look so fantastic in just about any style of home and garden. You can grow baby succulents by just taking off leaves from the base and lay them flat side up on soil in some sun. See our tutorial on how to grow more succulents here.
Plus they are perfect for drought-resistant gardens. With the water shortage we are facing here in Southern California they are a great plant to have as they actually prefer very little water. I took some plants off a couple of my succulents that needed to be trimmed down a bit and placed them in some water in my favorite Martin Freyer vases. I plan to plant them pretty soon as they prefer soil, but for now they are bringing me joy seeing them everyday in the living room! If you have a special event or dinner party planned – they would make a great centerpiece! Enjoy!
