We love books in our house!  In fact, my dream of becoming a children’s author was born while visiting our local independent bookstore when my daughter was little. Every week, I would push her in the stroller from our house to this adorable book shop and we would spend hours looking at all the colorful and magical children’s books. It was sitting amongst the hundreds of gorgeous picture books that my dream of becoming a children’s book author started to come alive.  My daughter and I loved going to this charming bookstore and it holds such wonderful memories for both of us! She is an avid reader of anything Minecraft at the moment but this love of reading started there.

A love of reading should be encouraged at a young age and now Kellogg’s is working with Scholastic to provide a free book for every product purchased with this image on the box.  How cool is that?!  This would be such a great way for the kids to build up their library featuring their favorite characters and authors.  Plus, once school starts back up teachers can get the students involved and have them look for this logo when purchasing their favorite Kellogg’s products and then bring the code to class where the students can then decide what books they want for their classroom.

You could also donate the book to your local shelter or library.  I love how this provides an opportunity for kids to give back to their community.  The past couple of years we have hosted a Giving Tuesday event where people from the community donated books to be included in Project Night Night tote bags that are given to children in shelters across the country.  See if your neighborhood shelter might be in need of some books and drop them off with the kids.  These acts of kindness are a great way for our kids to be involved with their community and understand the importance of giving back.

This past week, we headed to our local Walmart store and looked for the logo posted above.  My daughter was in heaven as she loves the cereals that are on the list.  Some of the choices include the ever popular Corn Flakes, Kellogg’s Apple Jacks, Fruit Loops, and Corn Pops.  Some of the snacks that are part of the program include Pringles, Rice Krispie treats and Nutri-Grain Breakfast Bars.

We brought a 16 count package of Rice Krispie treats to a pool party this week and the kids went crazy for them.  They bring back memories of making them in the kitchen and between my little brother and I, we would usually eat half the pan in one sitting. Oh, childhood!
