7 Easy Birthday Cake Designs

This next week we are hosting my daughter’s birthday and I decided to make the cake this year.  I am always astonished at some of the cake designs on Pinterest.  They are so talented!  But I am not that talented by any means, so I wanted to find cake designs that could be done easily but look great.  I think I am going to make the chocolate cake recipe again (go here for the recipe)  and make some cupcakes.  Here are some of my favorite cake designs. Which one do you want to try out for your next party?  Happy baking!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow Cake:

This just might be it!  Super easy and so much fun!  What’s not to like about colorful sprinkles atop cake?  There are so many great cake designs found on BuzzFeed in an article by Rachel Sanders.  Plus, she provides a great tip on how best to frost the cake (start at the center and work on the sides with the excess frosting from the top) to a quick and easy way to frost your cake (use store-bought frosting, heat up in microwave and pour – yes, pour over the top of the cake.  Read more here.  And here is a quick video tutorial from Tablespoon on how to decorate the cake with sprinkles.

OREO’s + Cupcakes = The Perfect Cupcake:

How amazing is this?!  An OREO cookie at the bottom of the cupcake?  I do think we will be trying this tip.  Be sure to check out Cupcakes Garden – she has a ton of cupcake recipes.
