Back to School with PBS Kids and Whole Foods Market :: Review & Giveaway
Curious George is one of our favorite shows! We love reading the Curious George books and spent many a day watching him on PBS Kids. On August 17, Curious George is back to his inquisitive ways with the television premiere of CURIOUS GEORGE 3: BACK TO THE JUNGLE. In this adventure-filled feature-length movie, Curious George takes a trip to space but crash-lands in the jungles of Africa, leading to an unforgettable journey with new animal friends. Featuring the voice talents of Angela Bassett and John Goodman, with music by the Plain White T’s, BACK TO THE JUNGLE is a fun-filled journey that everyone in the family will enjoy. I secretly think my husband loves him more than even my daughter does – he’s been a fan since he was a kid! You can read more of our review here and find some activity sheets to download.
“Curious George exemplifies PBS KIDS’ mission: to spark children’s curiosity and nurture their excitement about exploring the world around them,” said Lesli Rotenberg, General Manager, Children’s Media, PBS. “We know that families love CURIOUS GEORGE, which is our number-one show for kids 2-8*, and PBS KIDS is excited to debut a brand-new movie from everyone’s favorite monkey this summer, featuring adventures, learning moments and humor.”
And exciting news! PBS Kids and Whole Foods Market are now offering a new line of back-to-school products that are available exclusively at Whole Foods Market stores and online at PBS Kids. One-hundred percent of PBS KIDS’ net proceeds from the line will support PBS KIDS educational programming, dedicated to helping all children succeed in school and in life, while Whole Foods Market will donate a percentage of total sales, up to $25,000, to Whole Kids Foundation™, an organization dedicated to improving children’s nutrition and wellness.

These exercises come from Rae Pica, a Children’s Physical Activity Specialist. You can find more ideas for exercising your child’s creativity online at PBS Kids.org.
Ms. Pica says there are four great reasons why you and your child should spend time dancing together. We love to dance around in our living room and I have to say my husband and daughter have got some moves! Check out our latest Instagram video here of them “celebrating” my daughter’s birthday!
1. Dancing Promotes Creativity. Self-expression and coming up with different possibilities (dance moves) are major components of creativity, and dancing encourages both.
2. Dancing Strengthens Social and Emotional Development. Ms. Pica says that how children feel about other people and the way they express their feelings is a big part of social/emotional development. When they experience the joy of dancing, they learn to express themselves and learn about the world around them.
3. Children are Active Learners. When a child moves over, under, around, through, beside objects – near or far, they learn more about these concepts.
4. Dancing Promotes Fitness. Children can enjoy cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, endurance and body composition – the five health-related fitness factors when they are dancing. (Source: Curious George Exercise Your Creativity by Rae Pica).
Are you ready to have a dance party? Put on some music and encourage your kids to dance to their hearts content. Then push pause and everyone has to freeze until the music starts again. Every time you play change up the music so there is a different vibe to the game. Enjoy!
