Stop by the Mayor’s office to say hi!

THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF GHOST TOWN IS UNDERWAY

The return of GhostRider and new interactive entertainment bring Ghost Town to life in Buena Park, California.  This past month I was invited to attend Knott’s Berry Farm 75th Ghost Town Anniversary kick-off.  We had a tour of the newly refurbished Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant and had a chance to try out some rides in Ghost Town.  I just love Knott’s Berry Farm and appreciate all the details that have gone into celebrating Ghost Town’s 75th Anniversary.

Knott’s Berry Farm Ghost Town delivers an awesome experience for visitors!

Now through September 5, Knott’s Berry Farm’s Ghost Town is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the new interactive entertainment experience, Ghost Town Alive!, where guests play a role in new stories and adventures unfolding daily in the old west town of Calico. Plus, for the first time ever, the doors to the legendary shops and buildings around Ghost Town are opening to allow guests to explore locations like the Sheriff’s Office and Barbershop.

Experience the GhostRider (if you dare):

On June 11th, the new GhostRider opened with new coaster trains galloping over 4,500 feet of new track. Since 1998, GhostRider has been giving white-knuckle rides to even the toughest cowpokes. It looms over Ghost Town as the tallest, fastest and longest wooden roller coaster on the West Coast. All 4,533 feet of track have been replaced and many of the curves and banks reprofiled to deliver a pulse pounding ride across the western sky.  This is one of the best roller coasters I’ve been on!  Not for the faint of heart but any thrill seeker will absolutely want to go on it again and again.  Too bad my daughter’s last day of school was the day of the media event because otherwise she would have been one of those who got off the ride only to run back up to ride again.  How about you and your kids?  Are you all fans of fast roller coasters?  Then GhostRider is your ride!

GhostRider is truly exhilarating!
GhostRider is truly exhilarating!

When you accelerate down the first 108 foot drop in one of three all new “ore car” coaster trains and hit speeds of over 55 miles per hour, you’ll understand why the west just got a whole lot wilder!  We had so much fun riding GhostRider but I have to admit I didn’t realize it was such a fast roller coaster!  My friend told me but it didn’t really sink in… until we were seated and flying through the air at over 55 miles per hour.  Let me tell you it was probably the fastest roller coaster I’ve been on.  But oh, it was so much fun!  Can you tell we are all a little flabbergasted?!

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant is a must-stop destination.

Just outside the park, the historic Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant has reopened following an extensive restoration. But despite updates to the building’s look and dining room decor, the time-honored classic dishes and home style cooking remains unchanged. In 1941, Walter Knott set out to build a small diversion for hungry guests waiting for a table at his wife, Cordelia’s, Chicken Dinner Restaurant.

The overwhelming popularity of the restaurant and adjacent Ghost Town led to the creation of the Knott’s Berry Farm that exists today, 75 years later.  But be sure you save room for a slice of the apple pie and/or boysenberry pie!
