Be Sure to Check Out the YouTube Streamy Awards Live 10/4!
Look! Mom, there is a YouTuber! Those were the words straight from my 10 year old who could probably name every well-known YouTuber out there. I can tell you attending the 6th Annual Streamy Awards Red Carpet and Nominee Awards Party at the YouTube Space in Los Angeles last Saturday night was the night of her life! The Streamy Awards was created by Executive Producers Drew Baldwin (See interview below), Brady Brim-DeForest and Marc Hustvedt of Tubefilter and Joshua Cohen and Jamison Tilsner of Tilzy.tv.
The Streamy Awards are presented annually by Dick Clark Productions and Tubefilter to recognize and honor excellence in online video, including directing, acting, producing, and writing. You’ll be able to catch the live Streamy Awards starting at 6pm PST here. King Bach, aka the king of Vine is hosting this years awards! Did you know he is a Guinness Book World Recordholder for the most followeed account on Vine with over 16.1 million followers and 5 billion views! He also had over 9.3 million Instagram followers and over 1 million YouTube subscribers. Wow!
If you aren’t sold yet on the whole YouTube thing, recent research found that amongst children, YouTube is more recognizable than Disney or OREO. Wow again! I realized this a few weeks ago when a homework assignment asked my daughter what is her favorite TV Show and she wrote down “I don’t watch TV.” This isn’t entirely true as we watch a lot of the Netflix shows, but there is not one that she would name above her favorite YouTubers. Pretty amazing right? How the world has changed when we had like 12 channels to pick from and our only option some days was the networks after-school shows… (not to age myself or anything!).
Here are some pictures and interviews my daughter took of some your (and her) favorite YouTubers. She was such a character and as she asked to take a picture with them she told them to make an awkward face.
Be sure to tune in tonight YouTube fans! From left to right at the top we have: Courtney Miller from Smosh and Erin Robinson from Clever, Swoozie, Keith Habs from BuzzFeed, Mark Iplier, Drew Baldwin co-creator of The Streamy Awards, Joey Graceffa, Rhett and Link, Eugene Lee Yang from Buzzfeed, Courtney Miller from Smosh. Some of these YouTubers have 700,000 to 20 million subscribers. It appears YouTube is the place to be.
We waited in line with The Sorry Girls who were up for Costume Design of the Year. This duo of 20-something-yr-olds are in love with creating and sharing all things DIY.
Formerly the Howard Hughes Airport, YouTube Space LA is located in the Playa Vista area of Los Angeles and covers nearly 41,000 square feet. It is about as cool of a space to work as they come and even has coed bathrooms. Kate was taking so many pictures and tagging #YouTubeSpaceLA that you could see her featured on the YouTube screen throughout the party. It was pretty funny and you could tell she was having the time of her life!
The family selfie.
I think I was most impressed with their wall of donuts…
