SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE out in theaters April 7th!
Smurfs: The Lost Village out in theaters April 7, 2017
In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!
I had a chance to preview the movie last weekend with my daughter, Kate, at the world premiere in Culver City. We absolutely loved the movie and found the Smurfs very endearing. From Papa Smurf who is wise and maybe a bit overprotective of his Smurfs – but that’s his job, to Clumsy Smurf, Brain Smurf and sweet Hefty Smurf you can’t help but fall in love with these adorable smurfs! Smurfette, played by the talented Demi Lovato, is the only girl Smurf and is searching for her purpose within the village. She was created by the villainous wizard Gargamel but was redeemed by Papa Smurf and became part of the village. The jest of the story is that Gargamel has made it his mission to capture the Smurfs, steal all of their essence, and become the most powerful wizard in the world.
But what happens along the way is quite heart-warming. From the friendships made to a surprise lost village they come upon, you will be cheering along with the Smurfs as they battle Gargamel and find the true meaning of friendship. A wonderful animated family film that will keep Smurf fans entertained.
Smurfs: The Lost Village is really well written and quite funny. I found myself laughing along with Kate throughout the movie and thought the voice actors did a great job getting into character.
We had a chance to meet some of the voice actors (Demi Lovato, Joe Manganiello, Ariel Winter, Jack McBrayer, Kelly Asbury) at the press junket last week and they all seemed excited about being a part of this sweet animated film.
When I asked Demi Lovato what she liked best about her role as Smurfette she said she was drawn to the girl power aspect of the story. She said she likes to think that she embodies this sense of women empowerment. People Magazine actually did a Facebook Book Live of the interview. You can watch it here.
The Blue Carpet Smurfs Premiere was in Culver City on April 1st. The Mayor of Culver City, Jim B. Clarke, spoke about how this is the first time Culver City hosted a World Movie Premiere in it’s over 100 year history so this was a pretty special event for them! But with Culver City being the home of SONY Pictures it made perfect sense to host the premiere here!
Kate and I had a blast and were invited onto the blue carpet and awaited the actors arrival. It was so much fun seeing the actors walk down the carpet and wave to the fans. Kate was able to get a couple selfies with Meghan Trainor, Demi Lovato and Ariel Winter. I truly think it made her year! You can catch more of the blue carpet event here on YouTube.
Be sure to check out Smurfs: The Lost Village this weekend with the family. There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy – from bringing back memories for the parents who might have grown up with the Smurfs to entertaining the little ones, we found this animated movie quite fun.
I want to start collecting the little Smurfs figurines now.
