Erin Condren’s Colorful World

Who knew staying organized could be so much fun?  I came across Erin Condren’s company a few years back from one of the moms in my daughter’s class.  She gave a birthday gift to my daughter that had the cutest personalized sticker label on the outside of the bag in all of these wonderful colors and polka dots.  It was love at first site!  I asked her where she purchased them and she introduced me to the colorful world of Erin Condren products.

I had the chance to interview Ms. Condren about her journey of starting her company from the ground up.  She explained that it started out as a home business with personalized stationary.  She kept getting more and more orders from friends and family that she thought it was time to start up a website that could display all of her products.  As her business grew, she merged with a fine art printing company that really helped open doors to an endless amount of personalized products.

She said it was not always so easy.  In fact, when she started the business, she explained that the company had to succeed or they wouldn’t be able to pay their mortgage.  It took months and even years of hard work, but the company now sells thousands of  personalized life-planners a month!  I have one of these life-planners and it is filled with stickers, clips and a case that helps me stay on top of my schedule. Of course, I could use my iPhone or iPad for this but Ms. Condren and I agree that it is quite satisfying to check out something from our to-do lists.  This satisfaction is not quite the same with checking off my lists from the iPhone. The company offers so many fun items to choose from including personalized present labels, stationary, birth announcements, large calendars that are so cute you can put them out on the counter or hang in the kitchen. This makes a really wonderful gift as you can personalize it  for your friend or family member.

Ms. Condren was featured on Tory Johnson’s show a few months ago and asked to be one of the presenters at Ms. Johnson’s Spark&Hustle Los Angeles event where women business owners talk about their journey of creating a successful business.  She said there were times when she missed out on some of her twins’ events as she had to run her business.   When I asked her if she thinks women can do all the above: run a business, be a mindful parent and wife, she said that is really is about choices and organization.  She says it just takes careful planning and to have a mindset of not accepting failure.  She talked about late nights after putting the twins to bed and going to the kitchen – making herself a pot of coffee and plugging away at customer’s orders.  I would have to say all of her hard work is really paying off!
