4 Travel Fundamentals for Fashion-Forward Moms

With a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear, dressing yourself can seem like a daunting task. So how can you possibly be expected to plan and pack ahead for a family vacation? Easy. Pick a few stylish staples and simplify your travel wardrobe. Not only will you lighten the baggage load, but you’ll also maximize your relaxation time while keeping your look stylish and classy.

Tunic Top

Thanks to the varied lengths of tunics (anywhere from mid-thigh to knee) and fabrics, this wardrobe staple is a versatile travel companion. Lightweight tunics are ideal for packing because they don’t require much space in your luggage, and the array of materials makes them perfect for any climate. Pick a light, breathable fabric for a tropical getaway or a cozy knit tunic for a chillier escape. Mix and match your tops with the rest of your clothes for a stylish but practical travel wardrobe.
Get creative with your tunic tops:

  • Pair with comfy leggings to wear on your travel day
  • Tuck excess material into your pants for a clean, tailored look
  • Layer over a skirt to create the illusion of a dress

Roomy Handbag

Another travel essential is a fashionable handbag with lots of room to store all your travel goodies—and preferably one with a zip-top closure to deter pickpockets. Save space in your suitcase by selecting one neutral bag that can go with each outfit on your trip. Avoid fabrics that will easily show smudge marks (remember, kids are the kings of sticky hands and mysterious stains). Instead, opt for a durable leather, patent or similar fabric that can wipe down easily and look good as new with little effort. Lastly, look for a bag with plenty of pockets and storage options like a chic city bag from Coach. The more organized you can stay while traveling, the more at ease you will be.

Versatile Accessories

Set the tone of each ensemble with one statement piece, and mix it up a bit to keep it interesting. One day you might go for a big and bold bangle and the next, an extra long tassel necklace or a bold, chunky ring. Then grab a few neutral pieces that can serve as daily pairings like simple stud earrings, a casual scarf or downplayed necklace that will complement your statement pieces. One must-have piece while traveling is a stylish and dependable watch like the Georgia or Riley from Fossil.

Practical Footwear

While you may want to escape the everyday and bring along your currently neglected wedges and stylish stilettos, go for footwear that is comfortable and stylish and neutral enough to pair with several outfits. Aim to bring just two pairs. Coordinate shoes with your accessories or go with metallic-hued shoes that complement your jewelry.
