Our family is a big supporter of adoption for we were looking to adopt prior to getting pregnant back in 2005.  I was told that I would need some fertility “assistance” to get pregnant due to some female issues but I didn’t want to take that route and take a bunch of hormones since my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at an early age.  We were going through the process of adoption when I did, in fact, get pregnant with my daughter.  But adoption is such a wonderful way to add to your already existing family or help start a family. Going through the adoption process I realized how lucky we were to have this chance to adopt and start our family.  Today, families are created many ways – traditionally and non-traditionally!  There are over 100,000 children in foster care waiting to be adopted.  My husband’s cousin adopted both of her adorable boys through the foster care system and both have grown up to be wonderful teenagers.  Recently, I learned about The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption that has helped over 4,000 + children find adoptive families!  How amazing is that?!  I love that Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy’s, created this foundation and they have worked hard to find homes for foster care children for over 22 years.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption:

In 1990, Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy’s®, accepted President George H.W. Bush’s invitation to be the spokesperson for a national adoption awareness campaign. Just two years later, Dave established The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® as a non-profit public charity with one primary goal: to help every child in foster care find a loving, permanent family. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® believes that we have a responsibility to be the voice of foster care adoption, so that every child finds a family. As founder Dave Thomas said, “These children are not someone else’s responsibility. They are our responsibility.” The DTFA exist to find homes for children who are waiting to be adopted from foster care in North America. Thanks to Wendy’s® consumers and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption®, 4,000+ children have found adoptive families.
