Survey Finds 96% of Parents Believe Apps are Beneficial

When I released my first storybook app through PicPocket Books back in January 2010, the app industry was really in it’s infancy stage. Fast forward to 2014 and we are seeing literally hundreds of thousands of children’s games and book apps ready to be downloaded. But the problem for many busy parents is knowing which ones are worth your time and money. There are so many to choose from! But luckily we have resources like Moms With Apps. Last month I wrote about what they offer and how to search their free website. I really like that they categorize the apps so it is really easy to find apps in their system based on age of your child, what category/subject you are interested in and they even have a section where you can learn more about the people behind the apps. Many of these developers are moms and dads just like you and me who saw a need for a type of app based on what their own children were requesting.

My first storybook app, Penelope the Purple Pirate, was completely inspired by my little redheaded tomboy! It makes the whole experience more personal and the site provides you with the information you need. They provide a very different experience than what you find when scrolling through the hundreds of games and storybook apps in the app store – which really, who has time for that! Especially if you are looking for a quick, fun and educational app for your toddler while trying to get some grocery shopping done (yes, I think many of us have used these devices to give us a little break).

Throughout the month of October, Moms With Apps surveyed more than 450 parents to get their thoughts about children’s apps. These are top concerns from parents from across the country. Are any of these your concern as well?

96% of parents believe that apps are beneficial to their child’s education and development.
