This holiday season Nintendo has come out with two new games compatible on the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, or Nintendo 2DS that are geared towards girls.  In 2013, Nintendo claimed that 50% of its users were female so I am happy to see they are making games with them in mind!  My daughter announced to her first grade class last year during Show-n-Tell that she wanted to be a gamer when she grows up.  When the teacher asked her what types of games, she responded very seriously, “you know, games that allow them to be creative with their mind.”  That’s my girl!  That very much could happen since she absolutely loves to play games and she was excited to try out these two new games, A Tomodachi Life for Mii Characters and Animal Crossing New Leaf from Nintendo as part of the Clever Girls campaign.

A Tomodachi Life for Mii Characters

What happens when friends, family members and celebrities become Mii characters with their own personalities and live on an island where almost anything can happen? Tomodachi Life, that’s what!  Customize your Mii characters’ lives, and witness the unpredictable drama that unfolds as they rock out, eat doughnuts and ride the ups and downs of romance.

It is funny because Tomodachi is one of my favorite words in the Japanese language – it means friends/friendship!  What a great name for a game about creating and customizing your Mii friends lives.

FEATURES:

• Observe and participate in a vibrant world where unexpected things happen every day. Discover and experience different areas on the island, including shops, a concert hall and an amusement park. Something new and unique can be done at each ocation, so expect the unexpected every time you check in on your islanders.

• Create Mii characters and customize all aspects of their appearances, and bring them to life by customizing their personalities and voices.  My daughters name is Sazwire in the game and this is the personality traits she used to describe her character Sazwire.

• There are all sorts of activities that you can do with your Mii characters. Find out what they like by watching their reactions to the gifts, foods and items you’ve given them. Kate bought her friend a soda and some pancakes at the store because she told her “I sure am hungry.”  So off went Kate to the grocery store to get her some food.  It is very life-like at the grocery store checkout – with the cash register clicking when you buy items.  You can also play a variety of mini-games with your islanders, or watch them perform songs live on stage. You can also solve their problems to help them level up and unlock new gift items that you can give your Mii characters.

• Create QR codes that saves the appearance, personality and voice settings of your Mii characters.

• Share photos of the fun and humorous events happening on your island via the Nintendo 3DS Image Share Tool. Take a picture of either the top or bottom screen of the Nintendo 3DS system by simply pressing the X or Y button. Sharing is easy with the in-game menu icon that directly lets you access your Nintendo Image Share.

Every Day’s a New Day

It’s time to start your new life as the mayor of a town that is always changing. Animal Crossing™: New Leaf is the first game in the charming Animal Crossing series for the Nintendo 3DS™ system, and expands on the customized game play the series is known for. Take charge of your town as mayor and watch your personalized world grow as you design your character’s life and the life of the town around you.

My daughter enjoyed talking to the different characters.  She “spoke” to Rover for some time.  He asked her name, and if she was a boy or girl – all to personalize the gaming experience.  Her character (you can design what she is wearing but it is the same character every time) then jumped on a train and headed into the town where you meet up with different characters, like a sheep and dog. There are lots of features including designing your own hat, t-shirt, and umbrella.

FEATURES:

• In a first for the series, you can become mayor and perform tasks that will directly affect your town. Set town ordinances, like whether shops open later or earlier than usual, and also select public works projects to build around town, including bridges, benches, clocks and new facilities such as the café.

• Once you get accustomed to your new life in the game after moving in, the previous mayor, Tortimer, will come visit you in the town to tell you about the tropical island he now lives on. It’s the perfect location to search for unique items and play mini-games. You and up to three others can also participate in a wide variety of fun tours (mini-games). In a series first, you can even rent a wetsuit and dive into the ocean to catch underwater creatures or just leisurely swim around for some virtual exercise.

• Customization overload! The remarkably deep customization that fans love is bac in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but this time there are more customizable options than ever before, so you can personalize your town into your own happy place. In addition to personalizing your character’s clothes and house, you can even change the specific look of furniture and create patterns to be used on clothes, wallpaper or carpets.

• Visit returning and new Animal Crossing characters as well as a variety of different stores and facilities, including shoe shop Kicks, Club LOL and the Shampoodle hair salon. You can even create custom designs at the Able Sisters’ Tailor that can be turned into QR Code® patterns to be shared with others. All these shops will be located on Main Street, which will evolve and fill up with shops the more you play.

• Play locally with other Animal Crossing: New Leaf players who also own a copy of the game; share Friend Codes to travel to other players’ towns and compete in mini-games via a wireless broadband Internet connection; or tag players using the StreetPass™ feature to add their personalized house to your Happy Home Showcase.

• Collect bells, insects, fish, fossils and fruit from all over town, at the tropical island or even underwater. All collectibles, except for fruit and bells, can be donated to the town museum so visitors to your town can admire your collections – or you can exchange them for more bells at the alpaca-run recycle shop Re-tail.

• Animal Crossing: New Leaf is played in real time. Even when the power is off on your Nintendo 3DS system, the town is constantly evolving and changing. Certain items can only be found at a certain time of day, and certain events can only be experienced during special in-game holidays on the calendar. New animals will even move in, even when you’re away from the game. People who purchase the game from the Nintendo eShop can keep it on their systems at all times, and watch things change every day without the need to carry around a Game Card. There’s something new to do every day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. No two days are ever the same.
