DIY Housewarming Gift Ideas

There must be something in the air because I have five friends who have moved homes in the past few months! As anyone knows who has moved this can be really stressful, especially when kids are involved. I know when we moved out of our apartment over 13 years ago I could not believe how much stuff we had in that was somehow jammed into every corner of our 1,000 sq. foot place! There is something quite freeing about decluttering as you pack don’t you think – it is like a fresh start!

Since I know how stressful moving day and move-in month can be I wanted to make them some house-warming gifts and went in search of some clever ideas – where else but on Pinterest! Hope you enjoy these fun ideas!

Food is always good:

This is a clever idea! Most families love pasta and it would help make an easy meal while they are dealing the move. Lots of fairly inexpensive goodies can be found on WorldMarket website here.

Give a Hand:

Who couldn’t use another heating pad? Plus you can fill it with some cute cooking utensils. Idea found on Paige’s Party Ideas.

A Box of Love:

I love this idea of freshly planted herbs, little kitchen towels and hand cream. You can find cute boxes like this at any TJ Maxx or Home Goods store, or even check online on Amazon. This cute idea can be found on Magnolia Homes.

Mason Jar Love:

This is a great idea to give them mason jars filled with necessities like glue, nails, and other things they might need for the home. Love this idea from DIY Cozy Home.

DIY Gifts:

One of my favorite gifts though to give are plants. You can pick up some inexpensive containers at IKEA or your local Marshall’s or Home Goods. Even if the container doesn’t have holes (many inexpensive ones don’t) just put a layer or two of rocks at the bottom. Then add some cactus soil and plant some succulents. These really are the best plants as they are near to impossible to kill! Perfect for your friend who might not be known for having a green thumb!

Here are some ones I put together recently! I found these open faced glass containers at Marshalls and I think an air plant would look amazing in them! I planted some little succulents in one of them. Here’s a simple tutorial:

You will need:

rocks – I like white rocks

Cactus Soil

Some little succulents – a mix of different types would look nice.

Container of your choice – I’ve even seen them planted in favorite coffee cups. As long as you put rocks at the bottom (helps with drainage), use cactus soil and don’t over water them – they will do great!

Find a container of choice. I thought these were so unusual I just had to get them! Again, I think an air plant (needs no soil) would look great but I like these succulents too!
