Marvel’s ANT-MAN Review & Giveaway

“Small is the new spectacular in this latest Marvel winner.”

-Michael Sauter (Life & Style)

Marvel, the Studio who brought you “The Avengers”, now brings to life one of the original Avengers — Marvel’s Ant-Man. Bring home the epic heist as Ant-man embraces his inner hero and harnesses the unique ability to shrink in scale to save not only the world, but his daughter.

I have to be honest, when I first saw the previews for Ant-Man I just wasn’t sold.  Like the first time I saw the previews for Turbo (the movie about fast snails) I was thinking how in the world does a small superhero type character fit in with the whole Marvel genre.  Boy, was I wrong.  Not only is the movie really good, Paul Rudd totally sells it.  He plays a great superhero and brings some humor to the part.  But of course, right?  He is known for his comedies and I really enjoyed watching him in AnchorMan and Knocked Up.

I spoke with Jake Morrison (VFX Supervisor) who talked about how much fun it was to work with Paul Rudd.  He said he was such a great sport and remembers when Paul first came out on set wearing the Ant-Man suit.  He said how he could only imagine it would be a little stressful for an actor to come out in a superhero suit for the first time but Paul decided to start doing a rather good impression of cp30 in his suit.  I mentioned to Jake that I wasn’t sold on the idea of Ant-Man as a superhero at first,  but after a few minutes of watching the movie, I was immediately drawn into the great story and acting. Paul really did such a great job in this role.  Jake said they went out of their way to make sure the special effects were as real as possible and spent hours on creating life-like rooms such as the one the Director Peyton Reed (The Breakup, Down with Love)  is holding below.  Jake spoke about breaking new ground in special effects with the scene of Ant-Man in the briefcase and how they filmed this in a air tunnel to get the desired effects.  He said he is never bored in this industry and loves what he does.  The special effects are quite amazing and you can tell corners were not cut to get really great scenes.  We loved the Thomas the Engine train scene best.  It was hysterical!

Marvel Cinematic Universe introduces the newest member of the Avengers: Marvel’s AntMan so well. Armed with the amazing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) joins forces with his new mentor Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas (Last Vegas, The Game) to protect the secret behind his spectacular AntMan suit from ruthless villains! With humanity’s fate in the balance, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a daring heist against insurmountable odds. Filled with humor, awesome special effects and exclusive bonus features, this action-packed adventure takes you to new levels of pulse-pounding excitement!

I had a chance to speak to Trevor Habberstad, son of Jeff Habberstad, who worked on the set alongside his father as the Stunt Coordinator.  He said that it wasn’t until he turned 21 years old that he decided that in fact he did want to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Stunt Coordinator.  It wasn’t always like that as for many years he thought he wanted to have nothing to do with that industry and job.  When he graduated from college and decided he wanted to pursue this career, his father basically told him he wasn’t good enough to work with him yet so he went out and worked his you-know-what off to get the skills needed.  When I asked him what advice he would give to someone who was interested in pursing this type of job he said it takes a lot of really hard work.  And time.  Time to get the skills necessary for this type of work.  He said part of being a good Stunt Coordinator is knowing when an actor or actress should let a professional do the stunt.  Trevor said Paul was really good about knowing his limits and didn’t let his ego get in the way of doing a great job.

I’ve heard how some actors want to do all the stunts and that seems like that could be dangerous and sometimes better suited for the professional stunt folk.

Full of both humor and heart, Marvel’s Ant-man is the perfect gift this holiday on Blu-ray and Digital HD.
