Knott’s Berry Farm HANGTIME Roller Coaster Defies Gravity!

Giving some love to the Snoop Dog!

HangTime, the first and only dive coaster in California, is now open at Knott’s Berry Farm!  HangTime towers 150 feet over the Boardwalk area showcasing a beyond vertical drop, gravity-defying inversions, and mid-air suspensions.

This week I was invited to attend the Knott’s Berry Farm HangTime Preview Party on behalf of Belair Mommie because she was too chicken to go.  I joke, but after riding both the Xcelerator The Ride® AND the surf-themed rollercoaster HangTime – the first and only dive coaster in California, I can’t blame her.  For those who love a thrill ride you are in for a treat! I’ve never experienced a ride like that – ever!  It feels like you are defying gravity because it lifts you up slightly inverted as you rise to the top.  As you slowly move across the top of the ride, it pauses for a few seconds (but feels like much longer if you are a scaredy cat like myself) and you can see out across the park (assuming you don’t have your eyes closed), and giving the illusion of a disappearing track. Gulp!   Then off you go as the train suddenly descends into a beyond-vertical drop, through 2,189 feet of steel track (gulp!) and five gravity-defying inversions.

This group of moms are smiling BEFORE heading onto Xcelerator The Ride®, the fastest roller coaster that can rocket 0-82 mph in 2.3 seconds hundreds of feet into the air!  But were we smiling AFTER getting off the Xcelerator? Which for me was a resounding YES!  Keep in mind I am not the thrill-seeker I once was in my young-in days but I figured I’d do it for you all so I could give you my take on one of Knott’s Berry Farms most thrilling rides to date. The sacrifices I make for my loyal readers! Ha!

My partner-in-crime, Donna of Dangerous Cupckae and I pre-ride.

So thank you for giving me the courage to even get on the Xcelerator and HangTime.  Thank you and thanks to the Stella beer… Hey, I don’t know if I could have done it without one (or two!).

Knott’s Berry Farm put on a great party and provided us with some delicious food and beverages!  These cupcakes would make a great beach-themed party don’t you think?!  Love the little surfboard candy and edible flower on top.

Loved the dancers and surf band!  I’ve been a big fan of the whole surf culture since I was a kid and I don’t think it is just because I grew up in southern California. The very first band I saw in concert was The Beach Boys circa late 1980’s!  And who can deny that The Beach Boys Pet Sounds isn’t one of the best albums ever created!!

Just saying, you are going to love the whole beach/surf culture vibe of HangTime. And if you work up an appetite at the park there are a ton of restaurant to choose from.  I’ve been a fan of Mrs. Knott’s fried chicken since I was a kid but there is something for everyone inside the park.  They even offer several options for those who have dietary restrictions.  You can see more of what they have to offer here.

Be sure to stop by the cute gift shop and pick up your photo from the ride.  Donna of Dangerous Cupcake and I are holding on for our lives!  But you can see we are rather enjoying ourselves.  HangTime is quite thrilling folks!  I was a tad nervous because I’ve had neck issues in the past, but this ride is really smooth and takes you on these gravity-defying twists and turns.  Hold on!

HangTime simulates what a surfer feels as he is surfing rather large waves.  The sensations you feel on this ride is nothing I’ve ever experienced on any another ride.  It is hard to explain except when you free fall down it feels as if you aren’t attached to anything because of the way your body is flying through the air.  This ride is not for the faint of heart but for those who have the courage (or crazy-minded folk like myself) who don’t mind having no sense of control as the ride loops you around and tosses you aside.  Don’t get me wrong though, this ride does not toss you where you are banging your head or body against the ride, in fact it is extremely smooth so you just enjoy the terrifying loops and sensations.  I promise you are going to be freaked out, but in such a way you will want to get right back on!  As I got off the ride I joked with my friend asking her “what crazy mind came up with THAT ride?!” but I loved it so much I wanted to jump right back on.
