DIY :: Creative Wine Cork Crafts

 

With California Wine Month rapidly approaching I saw this as a perfect opportunity to share with you a collection super neat craft projects involving wine corks. There is something about wine corks that makes them such a great material for decorating. Maybe it’s the earthy, natural color (with a tinge of red stain), or perhaps their texture, whatever it is corks are one the most versatile materials I have ever used.

In case you didn’t notice in my last post about DIY mason jar projects, it is safe to say that I could be considered somewhat of a hoarder when it comes to random craft supplies. What can I say? I see potential in the little things. Maybe I go a little overboard with my supplies but hey, I wouldn’t be able to share all of these awesome projects with you if I wasn’t a little obsessive.

Anyways, after moving into my apartment about 3 years ago I began collecting all of my leftover corks from random dates, movie nights, evenings with my girlfriends, Sex and the City parties…. You get the idea, I like wine. I originally got the idea to start holding on to my corks from my dad who used his cork collection to line the entire fence in their backyard with corks. Needless to say it is pretty freaking awesome!

Below I have corralled all of my favorite cork projects into one post for you to try out yourselves. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did and don’t forget to share your stories in the comments section

1. Keychain Ring

 

 

Materials:

• Corks
• Keychain rings
• Screw eyes
  • Both the screw eyes and keychain rings can be found at your local craft store.

 2. Jewelry

 

Materials:

• Corks
• Precision knife (i.e. X-acto knife)
• Jewelry materials (i.e. pins, clips, earrings, etc.)
  • Can be found at your local craft store

3. Candle Votive

 

Materials:

• Corks
• (2) Glass cylinders
  • One larger than the other
  • Make sure the size difference allows for corks to fill the outer vase.
• Your favorite scented candle

4. “Cork” Board

 

Materials:

• Corks (getting redundant yet?)
• Picture frame
• Black acrylic paint
• Hot glue gun

5. Push Pins (for your “cork” board!)

6.     Coasters

 

Materials:

• Corks

  • o Can be found at your local craft store

7.  Wreath (my personal favorite, it’s so beautiful!!)

• Foam wreath
  • Can either be found at a craft store or a hardware store
