Inspirational Mom :: Jackie Shapiro of French Bull

    October 27, 2014 /

Back in the early 2000’s, my very stylish girlfriend introduced me to the French Bull line.  I fell in love with her polka dot round platter she was using at a dinner party.  I was sold right then and there!  I was fortunate to find the same multidot platter at a cute little boutique in Laguna Beach and she gave me this one for a Christmas present.  I use it every night to put our fruit on for dinner and at pretty much every party we host.  The products are really durable and I have had mine for years!       The French Bull line is just so…

Day 12 :: Get Your Home Decluttered in 28 Days: The Backyard

    October 25, 2014 /

We are on Day 12 of our Home Decluttering Project.  Granted, it has taken me more than 28 days to tackle each room in the house, but that is okay!  These things can take time and I want you to join in where you can!  This project is about making our homes into a de-cluttered and organized place that we enjoy spending time in.   I think and feel better when I don’t have so much “stuff” around and this step-by-step, room-by-room series has been therapeutic.  So join in where you can if you think your home could use some attention! Since I look out into our garden everyday from…

Catching the Flu? A Natural Guide to Getting Well Fast

    October 24, 2014 /

We often use the word flu interchangeably with “common cold” and vice versa. After all, both are ailments which result in similar conditions, such as congestion, aches, and a fever. However, in truth, flus tend to be far more potent in their symptoms and present a greater health risk. They come on more quickly, last over a week, and can result in serious complications such as pneumonia. So what can you do when flu season comes around your neighborhood and you start feeling that familiar tickle at the back of your throat? While most consumers immediately check out over-the-counter medications, there are plenty of natural remedies and behavioral adjustments we…

    Apple Picking in Southern California

    October 23, 2014 /

Image courtesy of Flickr When I think about fall I can’t help but think of the beautiful reds and yellows of the changing leaves, and the thoughts of pumpkins and apples fill my mind.  I love the way the air finally feels crisp in the early morning, and the scent of cinnamon is in the air.  I want my children to have those same memories, and the feelings of joy and excitement this season brings.  However, fall is a hard thing to come by in Southern California.  With the temperatures still well in the 80’s, and the only color leaves we see are green or brown, we have to head…

CURIOUS GEORGE: A Hallowen Boo Fest Premieres October 27th

    October 22, 2014 /

You’re invited to the spooky return of CURIOUS GEORGE: A Halloween Boo Fest on PBS KIDS! On Monday, October 27, everyone’s favorite monkey returns in his Halloween special, kicking off season 9 with a week of new episodes from the popular series!  Last year I had the pleasure of speaking with the Executive Producer of Curious George, Dorothea Gillim who also created Word Girl!  She spoke about how difficult it can be to produce a show where the main character doesn’t speak.  When she said this to me during our talk, I realized what an amazing job they were doing – the main character doesn’t talk…  yet we all love Curious…
