Dwell :: Modern Holiday Decor & Crafts

    November 13, 2013 /

We are preparing to host Thanksgiving this year and found some wonderful recipes to try out as well as décor ideas.  Make sure to check out these posts to get some new ideas as well!  Friends, Christmas will be here before you know it and I find it less stressful if I take care of my shopping way ahead of time so I can actually sit back and enjoy the season with family and friends.  I don’t know how people can go shopping the day or so before Christmas at the malls – how stressful!  So here’s to planning a bit ahead (we have a little over 6 weeks left) and enjoy trying out a few of these…

Latest & Greatest :: The Kindle Fire HD 7″

    November 11, 2013 /

As part of the Dot Complicated Voices mom blogger group I was sent a Kindle Fire HD 7″ to try out and post a review.  I have to be honest, I was a bit unsure of what to think about the Kindle and even had a discussion about this with my father-in-law a few months back.  He was telling me how easy it is to pick out books to read on the Kindle and that there are so many that are offered free.  Most of the classics can be found for free on the Kindle!  I explained that I am old-school and prefer to hold a book in my…

Instagram of the Day :: The Importance of Lifelines

    November 10, 2013 /

Lately, I have been thinking about how to balance my work life (which is mostly done online) with my home life.  My daughter “gets” that daddy goes to work and doesn’t see him until he gets home at night but seems to get more upset if mom is working at home while she is here.  I do my best to try to balance my work and my time with her and some days work out better than others.  There is definitely some mommy guilt felt when I have a deadline to finish and she is wanting to play LEGO’s and I am trying to figure out how best to balance this…

    Supporting Veterans Day

    November 10, 2013 /

Tomorrow most of the country will have the day off  because of Veterans Day. Last night at dinner, my father-in-law who is a Vietnam Veteran, told me that Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was created and officially announced a National Holiday on November 11th because at the end of World World I ended on November 11, 1918 on the 11th hour.   In legislation that was passed in 1938, November 11 was “dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day.'” As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.  It wasn’t until after World War II and the Korean War that they…

Stay Fit with These Mommy and Me Activities

    November 9, 2013 /

Just after my first child was born, I completely lost track of my weight. I was so busy spending time bonding with my daughter that I stopped taking care of my body. If someone told me that I could have been working out while connecting with my baby, I probably would have thought they were a sandwich short of a picnic. By the time the Mommy & Me exercise craze hit, my daughter was already out of diapers, but I had taken notice. During my second pregnancy, I gained 40 pounds and developed tendonitis in my shoulder. After my son was born, I immediately signed up for…
